Kodak still selling means a ton of stress

Post by film_idaho »

Is Kodak still selling Kodachrome? If so can I still call the 1 800 # (what is the cost that Kodak charges for the K40?)

Thanks you! :P

800-621-3456 (FILM)

IIRC it's $10.50 per cart if you order more than 5.

I only want to order 3... how much will that be (like the price for only one?) And how do they ship the film?

Uh, IIRC more like $13.25 ea. So order 5, it'll be like getting 4/7 of one for free. (Or something like that...)

They're going to mistreat you on the phone if you only order 3 (i'm sort of kidding, but they will likely be irritated-sounding); for orders that small, they want you shopping retail. YMMV, of course...

Did you mean, five or more?

They should really have some poor student fund... Ahhhhh I wish I didn't feel pushed to buy so much Kodachrome right now! Why can't they just keep K40, I bet they have had some of the best sells in years!

I really picked a odd time to go into Super 8 because people are freaking out telling everyone to stock up for years and i can only buy so many!! JUST KEEP KODACHROME!!! Then my life would be so much better and stress free! Just keep K40 ( in Super 8 ) for 10 more years!

I believe the student discount is at least 10%.

Nah, just accept that Kodachrom is the past and something else is the future. Buy a few K40 if you can afford them, shoot, learn and have fun... but don't feel like you need K40 to make S8 shooting worthwhile. IMHO you will get a better film foundation starting out w/black and white anyway, and the S8 B/W stocks are nice. (A great big raspberry to all y'all Tri-X haters out there.)

Everybody wants the cake and the simultaneous eating of it, as the saying goes... we want film to be relevant, current, modern, practical even... and at the same time we're unwilling to accept even the modern, current, relevant offerings within the film world, instead choosing to cry, cry, cry about the death of a 40 year old, 14-stage, nasty emulsion/chemistry.

Blah, I say. Blah.

EDIT: OK, ok... even freetranslation.com says:

"Der kodachrome, das"

So instead I say: DIE KODACHROME, DIE!!! ((c) Nigel, 2005)

Hell, man -- you're YOUNG. You should be laughing at us all for trying to hold on to the past. Instead, get out there and show us how it's done with the newest film stocks available for the format. It'll be more fun than hoarding Kodachrome, I assure you...

My $.02,

Student discount is 20% (I think if you order 10 or more carts). That puts K40 at $8.66 a cart plus shipping and tax. Discount might be less if you order <10.

Lawyer: What about that tattoo on your chest? Doesn't it say "Die Bart, Die"?
Sideshow Bob: No, that's German for "The Bart, The".
Juror: No one who speaks German could be evil.

That's because the folks at freetranslation.com don't watch The Simpsons. Although Sideshow Bob's poor command of German has been referenced numerous times on the Simpsons' forums. Fortunately, it's only a joke.

"I believe the student discount is at least 10%."

Hm... it seems that no one on this thread has actually *used* the student discount. Am I the only student here? Anyway, it's 20% off the normal price. You don't have to buy more than 10 or anything like that. If you order 5 or more, it comes out to be roughly $9 per cart in FL (with 6% sales tax). I believe the discount would also apply to the higher (around $15 IIRC) price per cart if you order less than 5, but I can't imagine why you would do that.

I use the student discount. I wasn't sure if the discount was < 20% on orders < 10 rolls because I always order at least 10 each time.

what do you need to provide as proof that you are a student? I still have my student card and it has no date on it, perhaps I could... :D
