directed by Steven Spielberg. In the opening sequence the red planet mars dissolves into a red traffic light. There is a series of similar dissolves involving a window in the opening sequence of

CITIZEN KANE

directed by

ORSON WELLES

who paniced America with his radio production of

WAR OF THE WORLDS.

You can bet Spielberg was aware of Orson Wells' work. It's likely his way of paying homage and referencing another great filmmaker's material.
The government says that by 2010 30% of us will be fat....I am merely a trendsetter :)

Check out 'War of the Worlds - the Next Century' by Piotr Szulkin. A fantastic '1984'-influenced SF film that takes the loose concept of Martians invading Earth and totally recontextualizes it for 1970s' Poland.
