FTP will be down for a while
From this upcoming friday I will take down the FTP server for a while.
There are several recent incidents that has forced this:
- Disk is nearly full
- Abuse (illegal uploads)
- Someone mass-downloading stuff and selling them on eBay.
I need to fix the hardware and software and content before it gets online again.
I will NOT be able to email you manuals in the meantime. I kindly ask you to wait until it gets back online again. Thanks.
For your info.
Regards,
Andreas

Yes. All the manuals. It's some guy from Italy. I have emailed him and reported him to eBay.

oops!
..I hope you don't mind me using them as a link in my Ebay descriptions?? If so, I won't use the links to your manuals again. I have send you two new ones, for an Elmo camera and a Canon 518 SV.

Illegal uploads as in people using it as their "temp-folder" when sharing stuff with friends? Bastards!

So now everyone who wants to upload something will have to use a personal password or similar? And contact you before they get this password, and like have at least 50 posts or so. (To scare off idiots wanting to upload porn and shit, if someone doesen´t have 50 posts but seems to be a "real" guy they can get a password anyway).
How will you stop the illegal uploads?

Yea, that was me. I tried to upload a mp3 compressed audio file of thunder, rain on a tree, and birds singing in the rain. It is a great compresser and really squeezed the file about 11:1. The file was made on a tiny voice recorder that may be put onto a 8mm camera or onto the person being filmed. It has USB out and is stereo.someone was complaining that they couldn't upload the other day

Maybe solve the issue by not allowing anything else than video containers as uploadable file formats, maybe mp3s as well, and then distribute passwords?
Oh, and while you're at it, could you implement something so one's browser caption bar would carry the thread's title one is currently looking at? I'm missing this feature that appears to come with other php forums, as often threads get lost in details so you keep forgetting what was the initial issue and you can't tell before scrolling all the way back up.
