Thanks Nigel - I dream of the day where things are done sensibly and easily from the get go -- oh and I have a budget too LOL!

The reason for everyone not seeing the film is it was a competition on freelancer.com and I didn't really have the means (or the desire) to give a copy of the whole film to all these people I'd never met - before it had even been released. So I sent a whole lot of images that I liked and let them choose. But yes it would have been good to send the whole film and given the designers complete freedom. Now I've got a good relationship with this designer I might do that in the future with other projects.

About HD - my computers just aren't up to editing in real time with HD - but the reconforming should be relatively automated -I just have to point the project file at the HD clips instead of the SD ones and it rebuilds it from there --> that's the theory anyway we'll see soon!!

What I'm saying is that having the competition was a bad choice.

How was using a competition advantageous? How is not asking graphic designers directly to see their portfolio more of a hassle? It seems to me easier to do a couple of searches online find three or four designers. Grab a coffee with them and flip through their work or if you are to cheap for that just look at their portfolios online.

If you only had $190 then just let them know that upfront.

It's not that you make it a contest. It's that you didn't need to and by doing so not only tied your hands but came back with lower quality than you wanted.

Good Luck

I didn't actually come back with lower quality than I wanted - I actually love the winning design. The point is I can't get out much from home owing to other committments and it was much easier to have the people come to me - I had about 40 designs from maybe 9 designers to choose from and all I had to do was give them about a dozen images to pick from and a few guidelines. Not to mention the fact I couldn't afford to use anyone in my own country - so I was able to use the exchange rate to my advantage by doing it through freelancer.com and hence all the designs came from overseas - another reason why I couldn't personally meet the designers. So it actually worked out well if you ask me.

The advantage in the competition is choice -- I had a lot of designs contributed for free - and I just had to pick my favourite, and pay for only that one. In the course of the competition I was able to critique and request changes to the designs as well, which I did.

I've just put the entire film on youtube

We haven't had any luck with distributors so at least it's out there for people to see and we've got the chance of some ad revenue (after a squillion views and clicks!)
