a "gl/xm hd1" would be nice. any rumours on that? i'm a huge fan of the smaller prosumer camcorders. easily the most versatile kind.

Ah, I was thinking of your movies mostly, and that it would be you shooting the vacations etc. If you're going to pass it off, so to speak, you might want think ergonomics. Ease of use, age of shooters.

When you think of it, getting film processed takes only the time needed to send it off; while it's being processed, you're doing something else. Then when it arrives, simply pretend you're just getting around to looking at it.
I'ts true editing is fun, and it's also a useful skill for money and brainhealth.
When you get your MiniDV camera you can do your own telecine pretty quick.

Are there any prosumer MiniDV cameras that don't make pretty damn fine pictures? Anything to avoid?
Sony VX2000 has performed flawlessly since we got it in May for $1800.00 CDN [ebay]. Low mileage was claimed and seems true...there's always that risk...

In the end, it's up to what is best for you. Getting one good portable vacation cam, and a better second cam for your filmmaking is good advice. Vid cams used for family events and trips tend to suffer from the crowd and handling no matter how careful you may be.

Speaking of which, I love adding tripod scratches to the formerly black metal base of my R8 - and I was the only one using it!!! Yes, knocks and knicks are a way of life...
