I got my items last week (airmail to the US) and without prompting he had refunded me some money because shipping was less than estimated.

Bought nothing as complex as a camera, just an assortment of remote controls, projector lenses, and an intervalometer. Mixed condition - some fantastic, some so-so - but I expected that and it was cheap enough that I'm happy 8)

I noticed that Mr. Ody was given "neutral" feedback by the buyer (who was obviously angry), probably for this same reason.

I have two accounts - one that I use for buying, and one for selling. I don't really mind if the buying account receives a bad feedback, since I can easily create a new one. So far, its received nothing but positives.

I don't have much to lose by being honest if someone scams me, and I'd prefer other buyers to know if they're dealing with someone shady.

Well, my box from Germany arrived today, and the condition of each and every item was better than I expected.

If you aren't interested in the boring details, stop reading now... :D

The only item I paid real money ($70 EUR IIRC) for was a Nizo 801 Macro. A lovely black one. :) It didn't work at first, but once I d***ed around with the battery box enough (natch) it runs like a charm. It's in much cleaner shape than my 801 non-macro. The fact that these are really old cameras and can fall apart at a moment's notice is my excuse to have both of them and not sell one to pay for both. :)

Also included in my compulsive order was a Bauer C2A Super that I'm sending to my 12 year old nephew and his 7 yr old bro with a couple carts of Kodachrome. His folks (my wife's sis and her hubby) have relocated them to Korea (!) for a couple of years, and I'm interested in what his impressionable young eyes will take pictures of in a land that is probably very much unlike anywhere he's ever been. I plan to have them send the carts back to me, I'll have them processed, WP the footage and send them on a DVD. Hopefully they'll like playing with Super8 and they can keep the camera and buy more film. (If not, I'm sure their geeky dad will have hours of fun with it!)

Third, the (regular8) Canon Reflex Zoom 8-3. Does anybody know this one? Is the lens as good as it looks/seems? f1.4 and pretty wide at 8.5mm. I think I'm gonna love this camera. I do need a manual (haven't searched this or other sites yet for one, but I will in a few...), as it seems to have a light meter but I don't see a hole where batteries go. Maybe it's solar? :? ;) And there are lots of little dials, and some unmarked white dots that set the dials to... something.

EDIT: Is that really a little "ding" it makes shortly before it runs out of wind? Like a game show clock.

I've never used regular 8 before. Sure seems expensive, but I'm a sucka for 'old school' and I've got a bit of an investment in the format with a WP on the way. So I should have some first hand experience. Calling John Schwind tomorrow... Stock suggestions?

Finally, the tiny and very cute Bauer Electric S. Runs when I put batteries in it, that's all I know so far. Somebody on this board expressed an interest in this one -- still want it? I bet we can work out a very fair deal, esp. as I paid not much for it. I think I'm over-camera'd at the moment and wouldn't want it to go unused.

I hope everybody's Ody order turned out as happy as mine. I really expected a box full of camera parts! :o

Fantastic! I hope my camera arrives soon, too. I'm itching to modify it. Not something I'd try with my spiffy ol' Beaulieu.

I had to abandon the idea of using the C2A for gate mod when my wife and I came up with the idea of an S8 cam for the nephews. But the 715XL is Camera A on a 4:3 short I'm doing in January, so gate mods can wait I guess.

Looking forward to hearing about your experiments. :)

Yeah, hope it goes well. I'll post my progress with some pictures as I get into it. [Hint to the postal service: RUSH MY CAMERA TO MY POST BOX NOW!]

If things don't go well, there may be an accompanying string of obscenities as captions.

Yes it is suppose to ding a few seconds before the springs out. This is to avoid flash frames I imagine.

Its a Canon 512, completely different design with a much more powerful spring.

Yeah, I see Lunar and others talking about that one, but I didn't know what the difference was.

More powerful spring = longer runtime, quicker/easier winding, both?

Both, Its spring lasts for something like 70 seconds at 18 fps. You can knock off an entire 8mm roll in 4 full winds, 2 for each half.

My stuff from this guy arrived recently, no problems at all....
nothing fancy though, just silly stuff... 2 packs of Hama titling letters (one really retro, one more recent) and a pack of Hama 'TV effect' strips which are really cool... they're just short strips of super 8 printed with brilliantly 70's abstract kalaidascope/laser animation... you're supposed to edit them into your film as transistions... anyone seen that kind of thing before? would love to find other examples of this kind of stuff!

I notice he also had pre-made generic titles for various kinds of holiday scenarios...

it amazes me how many cool and odd 8mm things you could get back in the day!:)
