My name is Fredrik Broman. I think I've e-mailed you about something related to super-8 some time (years) a go. Anyway, I'm always interested in finding cheap telecine, but looking at sto.pp's rate card I guess they're not exactly in my budget range.

they're doing hd transfers on a spirit at the same rate as most do sd using ursa's. go figure. and without revealing too many business secrets i can reveal that there are a few ways to bring the price down. talk to them and explain your situation.

I expect that's the resolution obssesion that seems to be endemic these days.

Also people probably get very excited when they build something that gives really good results! :)

From what I have seen of spirit/shadow transfers they are just a really sudden quantum leap over the older transfer setups. I've been really impressed. Of course I guess the people who can afford to run a spirit or shadow tend to be the higher end houses with all the best outboard stuff etc anyway.

t drunk to get there she smoked three camels in 10 minutes instead (she usually doesn't smoke more than one or two low tar cigarettes a day). it worked, and then continued working for several hours. i've never seen anyone so pale and miserable in my entire life. poor thing, but we got great pictures. :-)

/matt
I really hope she doesn't do that again. On the upside maybe it will put her off ciggies for a while but I worry she will get even more addicted! :(

scanned today. wow, the spirit is cool. we had an hd feed into the da vinci and did the (very mild) grain reduction and color correction in high res and then downconverted to digibeta and dvcam. the images are so sharp you almost fall into them when looking, and i'm kind of glad it softens a little on the digibeta, cause it actually isn't very pretty. on the big screen i'm sure it would look great, but on a 30 inch hdtv monitor it just looks computer generated (note to self, use a pro mist or something if finishing on hd). anyway, aesthetically it also came out great, so i'm confident it will be a pretty good film. i'll get back to you with some stills and a progress report on the editing.

/matt
I know how you feel, I shot something on dv recently and it just looks way too sharp for my liking. (Except the bits I managed to shoot out of focus (grrrr!) ) There is a bit too much of an obsession with things being ultra sharp these days and it's actualy not that pleasant looking.

I wonder if the colourist was using any kind of edge enhancement?

even so I'm scared for her using such nasty drugs to make herself poorly. Maybe it would have been better to use cannabis or something, I'm not sure, although that would probably have been expensive and I'm sure there wouldn't have been stuff like that on the set! ;)

At least it was only 2 camel.

the moment that people cried on the set, living in oblivion style, including me, even though i take credit for taking her there. :-) five more days to go and

At first I read this wrong and I was going to tell you off for making her cry.
That would just seem mean.

Living in oblivion is great in a really kind of cringe kind of way. I was laughing and cringing the whole way through! It's soooooo trueee I thought.

I'm glad to hear the shooting didn't go the way of living in oblivion tho! ;)
