That´s it. Why 24p? How playback it, when the beautiful "MULTImedia" world in reality is reduced to ony ONE media, that is the tv screen ?
Only another marketing gag, to reanimate the camcorder business and make people to change their system another time, after Video2000, VHS, HQ-VHS, VHS-C, Video8, High8, S-VHS, DV. But the tv screen always keeps the very same. We even cannot reach the theoretical possible 625 PAL lines! VHS is about 250 lines, HQ less noisy, S-VHS about 350 lines, DV about 400 lines (please correct me, if wrong).
So, to achieve film look, we do best to use film in it´s original sense. And we here in this and other forums can do that, as we are NOT comercial, we do it just for fun, so why we should imitate comercial industry predicts, as long as we can have the real thing?

I just walked several times thru "the boat" personally in the Bavaria studios, ít´s a super realistic wooden imitation of a submarine´s interior. I wonder, how they made all that quick camera rides thru the boat corridor. On tv screen, everything sucks incredible. And recently, I could aquire a 1st quality S8 copy, a direct optical print from the original negative, made by Piccolo as the very last S8 print they released. Really impressive.

Filmlook on DV etc

That´s just about it Pedro. Agree. I think it is a completely artificial "hype" that needs refuelling once again to keep rolling.

Regarding "Das Boot".

Surprising that they still have got the "mock-up" of the interior of the Submarine. Probably it was a great international success. Really well made.

I too have always wondered how they did that emergency "film run" through the sub and since I have visited other old subs of similar size it is very difficult to sort out how they made it.

Anyway, the real thing is docked dry on the beach at the East side of the Kiel Fjord and is open for visitors. This sub was given from Norway to Germany in the ´60s if I remember correctly and it has a somewhat funny history because The Norwegian Marine put 6 of them at the bottom of the Bergen Fjord some time late in 1945 or ´46 to hide them away from the other Allies who eagerly destroyed all German equipment they found (to be sure to sell their own stuff to us). Later they were recovered and one given back to Germany which is the one on exhibit in Kiel. (If my mind serves me well)
