Why not go to school at FSU where they have a good film school??

Also, FedEx. It worked for me in Montana. I would call Abel and schedule when I needed it. Then wake up and everything was there by 10am.

Good Luck

Because the price for fedexing gear back and forth would be more than the total budget of most of my projects 8O

Unless you're shooting for the big screen, super 16 is overkill IMO.

I agree. Sure I'd like to have the S16mm capability, but to spend the money to obtain it vs the intended result... R16mm cropped to 16:9 looks fabulous on an HD TV, You still have far more picture area than you can ever get with S8mm and we know how good that can look. Too many great cameras that will never see the light of day as far as conversion to S16mm are out there to go unused.

I was just spoiled by how easy it was to make the K3 Super 16. I know that many cameras need special machining to make it work.

I went to Miami. We won't talk about that Orange Bowl game.

The problem with renting is the insurance. I can rent a Minima for $250 a day here, but the insurance will cost even more. You can buy a Beaulieu, Scoopic, or Bolex for cheaper than rent and insurance on a pro S16 package.

It depends on how you get insurance.

If you hold a policy then it can be pretty cheap. If you are getting the insurance for a weekend or week then you are spot on. Depending on the items you might not need insurance.

Also, in relation to Evan he can get insurance from his university for free.

Good Luck

Really? My degree is in political science, not film (there is no real film program here).

I was under the impression that the insurance was usually through the rental house also, but I guess not. I wish there was a cooperative that had gear at reasonable rates. I do like owning cameras, but I'd like renting a nice S16 camera locally and affordably even more ;)

They don't offer it, but require it... and when you go outside for it, or don't have a policy, it can cost about $900 to insure an expensive rig.

Universities are self insured. Go to the "Risk Management Department". If the project is in any way connected to a class you should be able to get insurance.

At least that is how it worked at the schools I went to.

Good Luck
