Don't... ask... the... idiots.. at the Wal-Mart photo counter... anything.

They don't know, and it doesn't matter. The only interaction you will have with them is to pay for the processing after the film comes back.
Absolutely correct. The greatest fun I get is watching the clerk feel the package and have a screwed up look on their face since it is smaller and thinner than 99.999999% of their normal film packages.

Note: The female clerks perform better quality control since they actually feel the package to confirm it actually contains something. The male clerks do not - they just grunt, scratch themselves and otherwise say nothing.

Oh, you also have to tell them the name it is under as well as pay them.

Any leads to any...ralphs
Forget Walmart. Any Ralphs will do the processing. If you live in the "LA area" just start driving around, you'll find one.

Ah hell, go here:

http://clients.mapquest.com/ralphs/mqlocator?link=find

Its the store finder for Ralphs.

Just take your carts to the self-service developing counter, write "Super 8 Movie film" and "Process K14" (for K40) or "Process E6" (for E64T) on the envelope, and drop it in the slot. Pay $3.99 when you pick it up.

Thanks Tim! That's good to know. I have a Ralphs right across my work. I'll drop it off soon. How long does it take to usually process K40 and E64T? Any idea? Thanks.

Wow! this is interesting! For a long time in the UK until very recently we were able to BUY Super8 film in every highstreet (Jessops and Boots the Chemist chains), but getting anything processed anywhere was (and still is) much more difficult.

ASDA is a UK chain store owned by Walmart- but I doubt somehow they will be offering super 8 processing at £3!

The cheapest we can get is sending €15 (about £10) to Andec in Germany (different currency but local and quick enough for us- about time the UK joined the Euro I think!).

Anyone know anywhere cheaper in Europe for E6 processing?

Thanks

Quite so. The lady handing me back my K40 yesterday wrinkled up the package and asked me what it was. :)

I do all real color correction myself. I'm not sure what a company like Pro8 would deliver unsupervised with their own creative color correction.

The Digi 4 is not a telecine, it's a feature for MK telecines, the Turbo being one of them. All the last of the MK telecines were discontinued well over 10 years ago. The one in the picture is from the late 80's. The URSA replaced it and now, after several versions, the URSA is gone. Nowadays, you can buy a used MK for less than $25K and an URSA for $50K, add a little more and they'll toss in a DaVinci. All the technology we're talking about here is from the age of tube cameras with the exeption of power windows, that's mid 90's.

If high quality is the concern here, for the best transfer I'd be calling:

Shadow facilities that have a Super-8 Gate include:

VRT in Brussels Brussels, Belgium
Ware House (aka Digtial Film Labs) in Copenhagen, Denmark
Photo Cinema in Rome, Italy
Technicolor in New York
Modern VideoFilm in Burbank, CA.
Flying Spot in Seattle, WA

Spirit facilities that have a Super-8 Gate include:

On Line Video, Zurich
The Farm, London
Prime Focus, London
VTR, London
Lab O Scene, Rio De Janiero
The Film Unit, New Zealand
Library of Congress, U.S.
Telson, Madrid

I'm not trying to be difficult, its just that Pro8 does provide what I need in one place and their telecine is maintained well and they deliver their product to my specs. I can't vouch for their unsupervised telecine quality, they very well may overenchance it and push the color correction too far.
Could it be that Pro 8mm gives you better treatment than the average schlep because you go in there throwing around the Kodak name and how your old man worked for them?
