So that could be worth the equivalent of 10 subscriptions.
small format mag may exist in future

You're suggesting blowing up the post office, then? ;)Nigel wrote:Instead of whining about how someone gives away ad space you should change your model...
Personally, I think that you have other issues you need to get under control. Hasn't everyone that paid you in North America had to wait week and months for their copies??
I air mailed something to Juergen last week -- it took only a week but cost almost six bucks. There doesn't seem to be a cheap and fast way to send stuff around the planet anymore.

In a one on one transaction perhaps you got what you wanted in a week...Yet, there are many members that were waiting weeks and months for their copies.
If one you can't take the heat get out of the kitchen--There is no good reason why you should make your customers wait that long.
It isn't that the idea should die. It is just a matter of changing to better satisfy your market.
Charge more for people in this hemisphere. But make sure it shows up in a timely manner.
Good Luck

If the magazine actually came out exactly every two months, then the shipping time would become somewhat irrelevant because the magazines would begin arriving, two months apart.
However, that type of timelieness may not be possible when a magazine is being put together with high quality but low budget.
The second "solution" may be to really analyze the cost differential between the current shipping method and a 3 to 10 day option?
Currently 19 dollars is going towards shipping that is taking up to two months when one subscribes for 6 issues, that works out to $3.16 per issue. So how much more is it to send it a faster way?
I wonder if you could sell a "goodwill" ad or "sponsorship" ad in the magazine and the revenue from that ad could go to "bumping" everyone's
shipping from a boat with no propellor to air mail.
The cool thing is the ad sponsor would not have to be film related. The subscribers might be so appreciative over the faster shipping time that they go out of their way to use thats sponsor's service when it is applicable.
For instance, 1-800 flowers might be a logical sponsor. When mothers day comes around, hopefully the subscribers of Small Format Magazine use that 800 service to order flowers for mom. If all the subscribers purchase in unision from the sponsor, the sponsor probably will do OK advertising in the magazine.
Another option is it might be cheaper to have me reship them from the States.

(Edit note# - that means 30 dollars additional over the current subscription price).Juergen wrote:Hi, lastcoyote,
beleive me I am with you. But I have good news for you: we will offer Air Mail subscriptions for a plus of US$ 30 per year. That means, you will get your copy within 3-7 days. This is even faster than the transport inside Europe to UK or Sweden. What do you think?
Everybody who would like to subscribe with Air Mail, should send me a mail please.

Ah yes! And while you're at it, why dont't we blame "ze germans" for the bad weather?Nigel wrote:Personally, I think that you have other issues you need to get under control. Hasn't everyone that paid you in North America had to wait week and months for their copies??
Comments like yours drive me nuts: it has been pointed out time and again, that smallformat magazine can't change anything about the delivery times unless customers were prepared to pay a healthy surplus.
The day before yesterday I ordered a limited edition DVD from amazon.com which they have in stock for immediate delivery. I had the choice of delivery in 4-6 days but that would have cost me some $20 extra 8O So I chose normal snail mail and now all they can guarantee me is that I will get it before Xmas... So you see, cheap postage over the big pond takes a whole lot of time, both ways.
Greetings,
Alex
I don't think Nigel was implying "ze germans" about anything.lord_rover wrote:Ah yes! I find it somewhat frustrating that you berate Nigel rather than comment on the computations that I have made. If we're talking 11 bucks difference for six issues, than lets figure out a solution rather than nitpicking other members.
