No offense Fred, but do not use Scotch tape! I have cursed more than a few nameless individuals that used this method to tape film with... It might hold for awhile, but it discolors with age, becomes very brittle, and doesn't like film cleaner much... It is not worth it.
For cement I recommend either a Maier Handcock professional unit, or the Bolex. For editing with tape, I recommend the Wurker with the metal Fuji tape splicer a close second. I have about tried them all over the years and those are the ones I stick with. Like they say, your mileage may vary...

Thank you for this advice. I did not know the behaviour of Scotch tape on the long run. I assumed it was the same as the Fuji tape.
But I'm sure you agree the Scotch method is a good temporal solution in case you are out of cement or tape. Maybe other tape could give better results? Scotch tape is flat, maybe thin glossy tape is a better choice.
The original Fuji tape is glossy, too.

I have a 1980 catalogue of them, full of film equipment.
I did not know they still can offer reels, tape etc...
Thank you for the hint!

Perhaps some of the crap tape-splices I have encountered were Scotch tape?.... but do not use Scotch tape! I remember discoloured and brittle tapes for sure.
