They have such a bad reputation I’m surprised their still in business. Yet people still use them and then complain about the poor service, high prices and sloppy work they do. I haven’t heard or seen anything good from them. So why use them?
They're about the only company in North America that is marketing themselves as "something unique" for the Super 8 user, that's why. No-one else is re-packaging Kodak's stock into S8 and offering developing & telecine service all in one spot.

What I find most telling is that people around here seem to have a uniformly negative impression of them, and no-one from their company seems to have posted anything to counter it.

Compare that to someone like Roger - if he even so much as sniffs a Workprinter problem in a thread on this board, he is very quick to provide ideas and suggest that the customer chat with him to figure things out. THAT is the essence of standing behind your product, and it must be exhausting for him sometimes.

Well, if he gets too exhausted he can stretch out in his hammock on the banks of the Sabinal in lovely Utopia, TX. Right Roger? :P

Actually, in So. Cal there is Yale. Whilst I don't use them because of the censorship policy they do sell the Kodak Neg stocks, process and Xfer all in house. So there is a second One-Stop-Shop...

Good Luck

I think I know the answer to this. We are not their target market. They only care for productions who spend huge money for big projects only. I think they are even thriving by throwing money to spend on R&D like what they just developed.

It is akin to being qualified to a black American Express having special treatment. We only have the green American Express.

Pro 8mm is an arm of Hollywood trying to take ownership over Super 8. I don't support Hollywood as an institution - I don't support Pro 8mm.

If you want to shoot wide screen 8mm - I'd recommend talking to the artists and innovators of the format: http://www.friendlyfirefilms.ca/

Pro8's roots were in the old Super 8 Sound from Cambridge. They did a lot of innovation, and they weren't as geared to big-budget Hollywood productions as is Pro8.

I can only say this to them: get a better demo reel on the internet, dudes--the footage looks soft and shaky to me. Plus the voice-over and the editing suck.

I don't understand why they don't hire a real Hollywood professional to make their demo reel.

Probably because then they couldn't credit a bunch of celebrities at the end of it like they can now?
