Projection

Post by David M. Leugers »

I admit to a love affair with projectors. I have had so many over the years and still have a large collection of them that it must be an addiction. How else to explain putting up with all the idiosyncracies and faults both large and small just to spend a few minutes or hours in the glow of its aging magic? Again, the attraction lies in the satisfaction of the craft. You can put your hands on it, clean it, adjust it, modify it, fix it. It requires your attention. You can later sit back in your chair in smug satisfaction as your handy work slips through miles of acetate art in smooth running splendor as it throws a brilliant image onto the big screen. It is a hobby and a craft. Not much craft required to plug a DVD player in. Sitting in the dark watching a film unfold onscreen as the projector whirls, who can resist taking a look at the projector to see it in action? Beauty in motion, simply marvelous.

Sometimes I show films to local clubs. Often the've spent the last 15 years or so clustered round a TV to watch videos. Projected film comes as such a revelation that you would thinks I'd just invented it.

It can be a problem devising equipment, especially screens, that can be set up quickly yet give a 'professional' slickness to the proceedings. But it's very rewarding.

:D I must agree with the comments of projecting film, film is meant for the big screen, not the T.V. widescreen or anamorphic adds a new dimension aswell, keep on projecting...
