I was there with Steve...My meter was giving just over a 1(Spot reading off the highlight). The lights were 5 dimly aimed Lekos with gels on them. It was far from ideal and yes whilst there would have been an exposure it would have been muddy and nasty.
It was a wise move that we didn't shoot anything--Next time Steve will get exactly what he needs and wants.
Good Luck
what not to do when shooting...

Thanks for the feedback you guys. And thanks to Nigel to coming out to work on this project last night ..Yeah, we were ready to go -- 8 carts of 500T to cover one five minute song. Two good cameras charged and ready to roll. We had a check list of shots we knew we needed to make it good. I had compiled all the advice you guys had put forth into my notes and devised a few strategies for getting good "pick ups" and "sync shots" -- but then the stage lighting was shit and we had to make the go /no go call. We knew we could just film it and obtain some highlights, but I didn't want a muddy look -- it just didn't make sense for this particular band... The idea for this shoot was spontaneous -- dreamed up just a couple days ago... In a way, I'm glad we didn't shoot up this stock. I've got some other ideas that could be more fruitful..
Again thanks,
Steve

In case you were curious, I've posted a couple stills to the following webpage. These shots were taken with and SLR, Neopan 400 with an F1.8 55mm prime. The muddy shot was made wide open at 1/60 and the shot with blacks was made wide open at 1/15

I can't imagine getting an image that looks remotely like the one I shot at 1/15 under the lighting conditions we had to deal with. Even with 7218!
Again thanks,
Steve
