thanks for the photos :)

in particular, i was interested in the leads going into the front assembly portion of the camera ... these ones:

perhaps you could snap on of this area for me? the design of the camera as it relates to these wires and their connection leaves alot to be desired ... with just slight movement they come off their soder'd connection to the circuitboard ... unless handled very carefully ... but during the storm, i was not 'carefully' handling anything ... it was a mad dash from the palapa to the downstairs bedroom in the house with laods of stuff in my arms trying to keep them from blowing away during the 10 meter dashes. ug. i found myself saving inexpensive cameras like this that do not belong to me over high end stuff ... at least in the order of things as i was doing it. the winds and rain were so strong, and it was in the middle of the night/morning and completely dark and no power because the lines had either been blown down or washed away sometime earlier. i wish i had a camera that was follwoing me around for those 12 hours all night and into the next morning ... it would truly be something to watch.

I'll get a picture of the lens assembly for you. I am affraid to handle these parts of the camera, after seeing how easily the wires came loose from the cicuitboard.

Were my assumptions right about the positive / negative solder points and the order of the wires on the circuitboard? Or was this portion damaged during the storm as well?

take and circle the points you are referring to on the one image you snapped ... i will verify if you are correct or not. mine are all still in tact. i noticed your circuitboard had some differant sized resistors(not types, just sized, so my size reference sort of went out the window). otherwise, tomorrow morning i will snap a photo and circle them myself for you.

i just got a scanner and am kind of jazzed because i also started processing my own film stock, so now i can shoot film and get it onto the computer in a matter of hours ... although the scanning process is a pain using a flatbed and long lengths of film ... i am having to cut or bend, but no biggie, this is all test film anyways ... so its not like i am wasting movies with any real meaning.

You can any of my Nautica pictures you want. Just include "photo courtesy of Steve Wallace" and you can re-post them.

Back in the day, yours was a I sight I used to reference alot. I actually have the GAF SS805 (no macro). I'm glad to be able to give back after soo many years of referencing your material.

I wonder if the different size resisters has to do with the fps increase. If that is the case than the "simple upgrade" may not be that simple at all.
I figured it would be a more powerful yet similar sized motor that drew from the same power?.

to be honest, i have not even looked into that on this particular camera. but one of a few things could result in the speed increase, of which i doubt has to do with having a differant motor. like you mentioned, less resistence(more power) could be one, the other could be a simple adjustment on the potentimeter, and the other could be the replace of the potentimeter. it would not be difficult to determine this, it would just take some time and your handy multimeter and a tobin fps checker(to ballpark your adjustment to 24fps). although, for those who understnad electronics tey would most likely not require a cheat device like the tobin meter ... they would do the math. for us simple folk(me), i'll stick to the simple and fast tools. goodnight.

Thanks - will do - I will probably hit the old SHARPEN button in photoshop and resize them a bit but credits will be there (on the photo even if it works well).

Yeah, I just ordered the updated movie camera book from ATOLL and am hoping to see better coverage of the overlooked makes and models. I love my 805M!

Cheers,
Michael

But I can't speak for Eric and his photos.

Eric, I would like to see a picture of your circuitboard too. I want to get the the bottom the the different resisters. If I could figure out which ones to replace it with the Nautica with 24fps would be a pretty desirable camera.
