As stated a number of times in the past. European mail labeled as Air mail usually doesn't travel as air freight. :)
Distances are short enough to make it overnight or in two days across Europa per truck.
I don't make this up. It is what my heavy goods transporter told me.
He is well acquainted with the business of shipping large and small goods.

Only kamikaze transport or these professional 'next morning on my desk' delivery travel per aircraft.

I would concur with the above... I think this is largely urban myth. There might be a very slight risk of fogging with the highest speed films (Delta 3200 etc) if passed thru an unusually high dose of x-ray radiation, but personally I've never had one single instance of fogged film in years of travelling thru airports with film in my luggage and posting film around the world.
