Ebay USED to be a good, reliable place to buy and sell.

When I joined back in 1997, you could find some great treasures for close to nothing. Sellers were reliable as were the bidders. Then as the years went on, more and more people found Ebay, well, it really went down hill.

I recently won a Eumig MARK S 802 D DUAL 8MM SOUND projector. I used the buy it now option for $175.00. I then paid the seller via paypal.

He has a good feedback rating so I wasn't too concerned. Well, he emails me telling me he sent the projector (late May). I sent him a little more money for delivery confirmation.

He told me I should have it within a week. Well, it'd mid June and nothing. I emailed him a week ago with my concerns and to get the Delivery Conformation # and he told me not to worry, that I should have it any day.

So far nothing. I emailed him again, a few days ago and he hasn't responded. Who knows where my projector is......

Ebay is nothing but a crap shoot. I won't spend more than a few hundred dollars, and I am even leery of that now.

Then there is Ebay Safe Harbor. Ebay is the absolute worse in helping to rectify situations. They should be charged with a crime. They allow frauds to happen by simply shrugging their shoulders. Completely useless.

How good was his rating and how many transactions did he have under his name when you bid for that item?

Did you say you payed for delivery confirmation AFTER the item was alleged to have been shipped :?: Get the contact information from eBay and make a phone call to the seller. Just ask the seller straight out if they shipped it or not and what method (probably postal mail since you noted delivery confirmation). If they lie to you, call them on it. Notify eBay right away. If you used a credit card through paypal, report it. Don't wait for the seller to jerk you around for more than the ten days it would take to ship with the slowest method. This is where you snooze, you lose. Waiting is costly, don't wait. There is a time limit on certain things you can do as a buyer. I've had a seller email me a nasty note saying I did not pay, where is the money. I emailed back the bank information of where they deposited my check. Things happen. The wife deposited the check and never bothered to tell him it had even arrived. This was two months after I made payment. I don't wait that long anymore. If it's not here in five to ten days, I politely ask why. Just asked a seller about payment and shipping and found they were out of town for a week. So was I, so no big deal, but it pays to ask.

Hey gang,
I was just wondering if anyone has had any experience with the seller known as 'schachi08'. Comments?

hello,

the other side to things is that something actually happens to the item during transit. i have had this happen 3 times already, to people i have sold to, me, the seller, beng the one getting blamed. when i sent the items out, they were packed correctly, and more importantly they were working correctly. of the 3 items i have had problems with, one of them arrived not working, and the actual lens was not even attached to the camera. when i sent it, it was attached. the other two problems i've had are items not arriving at all. they end up in a mystery land somewhere between me, mexico, and the US. so sometimes it is legitimate. in my cases, the main problem is the mexican customs/shipping racket that has plauged this country forever. i have ot have all of my purchases sent to my new mexico, usa address, and when enough items have arrived, i have my mother pack them all in one box and send them down. currently, one box is in limbo land. the last package i sent up to her in bulk, in which she opens up and takes all fo the smaller packages out and mails them from within the US, was missing a camera all together. so imagine how i feel, not only do i get ringed on outragous shipping charges, i have to foot the bill whne something seems interesting to some mexican ups worker who will NEVER be held accountable. i was sending out items direct to the buyer from my place here in mexico, but not anymore .. my odds are better sending them all in bulk to my mother, and have her send them direct from there. and it is 1/3 the cost doing it that way. so i would say this, if the item is travelling between countries, it will be opened at least once on one side, and once on the other. if you are living in a country whose shipping and trade is in yesteryear, chances are they may actually take the item home to show a friend or family member(no shiiten you, i would be this happens!!), or use it themselves if they even know what it is. i have UPS service in my area which picks up every monday. i take it to a place in town, who is not UPS, but they represent UPS in our area. from there, the packages are literally driven to another larger city a few hours away in an old beat up car or truck, usually owned by the person driving it. once in la paz, i have no idea what happens to my package. i have tacked them on ups' website, and my packages have been reported in mexico city, when they should be in TJ, or visa versa, and when i actually have ot do a physical hunt for thm, i find them to be in a place not even mentioned on the ups website. so i am basically screwed on the shipping part of my ebay gig. and it sucks. so starting in a few weeks, a friend of mine who lives in so. cal. has agreed to drive to TJ every two weeks(physically drive my items accross the border and avoid customs all togehter) and take my packages to the airport, put them on a same day flight, whein i can pick them up later that day. earlier in the day, i will have already sent my outgoing packages so he can pick them up while he is sending my new ones down to me. hows that for leg work?

oh, and one other thing ... here in mexico, they will NEVER call you if a package has problems. you have to figure it out on you own. i send two packages to greece, one made it, the other did not. the guy on the other end never emailed, assuming it would arrive any day. that day never came. well, it had been held up in customs because whoever had opened it and inspected the contents along the way forgot to put back in the invoice, so it was sitting there without an invoice, and could not be processed. this was in greece, so the mexico side must have misplaced the invoice. so i suffer all the time with my shipping situation, and have been the villian to folsk who have purchased items from me, assuming i was the culprit. but once i emailed copies of all my problems i have had with shipping, they kind of understand, but are still not pleased, and rightly so. so now, before i send anything out, i tel lthe buyer they SHOULD purchase insurance, because items have been lost, and there is a good chance the item make take up to a month, perhaps two, before arriving. oh, and then one more matter that makes things worse, the UPS tracking number that this make-shift UPS rep office is NOT the ups numbers used in the online system!! and so you have to obtain it using ups customer service. AND, it does not sometimes show up in the system UNTIL it has made it to a larger city. in other words, there is no tracing it between here, and a city that has a computer. hehe ... frick-fracking crazy shit man. but if your seller is not replying to your emails, then that sucks ... i always reply immediatly. unless i am away from the computer of taking a weekend break, but even then i would have notified my buyers and told them ... wouldn't have you?

That reminded me of one I forgot...it was actually the first time I sold something on eBay. I was clearing out some of my S8 packaged movies that I bought in my teens and had no interest in any more. I was selling internationally but at that time only accepting cash, cheque or PO payments in UK pounds. This I stated clearly on the auction.

Anyway the winner was American, no problem, but he wanted to pay in US$. When I pointed out that the auction currency was pounds he got upset, said he didn't realise because he'd never bid on a foreign auction before, wouldn't ever again and said I should offer the film to the next highest bidder...which I did successfully.....then he comes back a week later and says he can get hold of pounds after all because mommy will go to the bank for him!!!!!

Turns out I had the 15 year old son using his mother's computer and eBay account. He left me bad feedback claiming I didn't go through with the deal...I sent eBay a copy of all our correspondance, they then sent him a stern waning and his account was suspended for two weeks for which he sent me the most childishly rude letters I have ever had the pleasure of laughing at.

Thinking of ericMartinJarvies' post has made me decide never to buy from Mexico!

I have bought from continental Europe and the USA before without any problems. German sellers in particular have been excellent and there's a load of S8 gear on eBay from Germany. Most European countries have laws that a package can not be opened unless customs have good reason to believe it's contraband or a bomb.

He sells Bauer cameras on eBay as far as I know. I dealt with him once when I wanted to get the Bauer 207XL shoulder support but not the camera. We reached an off eBay deal for the ST200 Bauer shoulder support. I got the ST200 for $10.00 and he delivered prombtly.

Lucky me. Never a problem except once over the holidays. The buyer must have gone away and left our transaction in limbo. As a result I left a slightly negative feedback and that got attention, and a very bad feedback for me! I finally DID get the item. I just couldn't be patient during an uncompleted transaction. And I'm not supposed to be. But I still got a bad feedback for HIS bad behavior. Sorry, it was not MY fault.
However, lucky me, all other deals were great. I've sold to Korea, Russia, bought from Australia, Germany, Great Britton, and lots to America natch. No problems! The thing from Australia was a Bolex Super Title machine in a monstrously large wooden box, bigger than a big suitcase. Lots of money involved but no problems.
Things are even easier what with Paypal converting monies automatically for us.
I think e-bay is better than ever.

Another side effect of eBay. I use a secure server based email account specifically for eBay & nothing else for reasons such as the following. Got spammed tonight with an attachment. Scan result: Virus W32.Bugbear.B.Dam found. Gotta wonder what lowlife scum I did business on eBay with that passed my email onto a spam list. Probably nothing more than asked a question about an item.

The email account I use is server based, OS on my machine is irrelevant. This is not a problem of infection. My email account is probably 2000 miles away from me on a secure server. The complaint is about spamming. I made contact with someone via eBay at some point, and now they have deliberately passed my email address onto a bulk mailing list. The annoying & petty things people do for whatever reasons.

I dought you were passed on to a spam list. If it was virus chances are the virus filed threw one of your former contacts email addresses and sent it that way.

yeah, why on earth would a spammer send you a virus? sounds a lot like the guy simply got his computer infected and the virus was passed on to all his contacts.

I've received plenty of emails with links to bogus sites trying to get me to give up my ebay and paypal passwords in the past. Had my share of virus alerts from problems with other peoples infected systems. The latest email was more than just a virus attachment that was passed on via an address book entry. It originated from an open relay. The email itself was false headers, false return address, and a full html message with graphics to entice the recipient (me) into opening the attachment by actually naming the attached file in the html email message. Not an accidental or unknown email forwarding of the virus. Very deliberate. Here's a couple of fairly recent news clips on this stuff. This is unfortunately probably the trend in virus propagation.

I might aswell join the sad eBayer gang. Yesterday I received my second Nizo Professional in a month. I guess most of you remember what my last Nizo looked like? (If not, check the Pictures-section).

This time I got a camera that looked just like it's suppose to look except for the lens, which was broken. The first glass was smashed due to someone dropping the camera. The outer metalring on the lense was also bent. Arg!

This time the seller was honest. It was simply me who didn't spend too much time translating German. I was there, but I didn't see it until now. Well, well... Perhaps I can take the first lense glass off camera no1 and put it on this one.. time will tell.
