the camera used to shoot the film was a Leicina Special Super8 camera, with a Leitz Optivaron telephoto lens, set at wideangle (6mm).
hello Carl, i never shot with Leicina special, i heard always of this legendary camera, but i am a bit , let's say , surprised: it delivers average camera quality images. If you playback frame by frame you will notice at the starting sequence, that focus swing , especially after every 26° frame, in almost every takes, it is very noticeable in the target resolution sequence. Could it be the eternal problem of plastic pressure plate ?

Yes - I noticed that as well. It's obviously the plastic pressure plate and film tension. A less than ideal cartridge. For some reason the plate is lifting away from the film plane for the first 30 odd frames. I can't imagine how the camera might be contributing to that effect. The film is obviously still engaged and running at the correct speed, since the exposure is consistent.PyrodsTechnology wrote:hello Carl, i never shot with Leicina special, i heard always of this legendary camera, but i am a bit , let's say , surprised: it delivers average camera quality images. There was some additional flutter in that test shot which I'm assuming is due to the shot being at the tail end of the cart.
The Leicina lens is fine. After SR and sharpening I was able to see at the very least 180 lines/mm in the image. And that's after the signal having passed through my camera lens and yours.

Carl. I am happy to see you "exercising" your Leicina! I love the optics of that camera. The 10mm anyway. I no longer have the 6-66mm zoom as I did in the nineties. Are you interested in acquiring the 10mm?
I meant to ask. Has the UP8 V3 50D negative arrived?

Hey Carl,
great to see you are still pursuing this. It's been a while... I also did a lot more fiddling with avisynth and since Daan Müller improved his frame scanner with a most decent line scanner and a fantastic lens, the input material got a lot better too.
This is the outcome so far:

This was shot with a Nikon R10 on Ektachrome 100 D Super-8 Stock. The color is partly bad (especially the lights), but that is a scanner setup problem and wasn't actually part of the SR exercise.
Some single frames as example...
Original after Scanning
Same frame after flipping and applying the script of doom

your post is absolutely fantastic. I'm very impressed. Not just technically in terms of transfer and SR but cinematographically, at the level of what is being shown. A day at the farm. It's so peaceful and friendly. It makes me feel happy.
