So I need an H16 and an H8 then he puts them together like a maniac elf and out comes an UltraPan8? Makes sense. To bad he couldn't do it to a Scoopic MS. I have three sitting on a shelf right now.

You could potentially make a sort of Scoopic UP8 out of a Scoopic Double Super8 mechanism and an MS body and lens, but that would be a whole new format - UltraPanSuper8! Come to think of it you could do it with DS8 Bolexes too. Not nearly as common as H8s though.

As far as Arri techs go, there are plenty world-wide (I personally work mainly on Arricams, 435s and SRs, though I've been trained on many older Arri models), but for 2-perf conversions of older cameras Bruce is really the only option I'd recommend.

That would be interesting, I do love those Scoopic cameras for their ease of use and being powered.

But unfortunately that would negate one of the great advantages of this UP8 format in that any telecine house with a 16mm gate can transfer it.

It is possible to scan a potential UP8 or Cinemascope conversion of a Canon Scoopic Double Super 8 camera (full 16mm width of DS8 film with S8 pulldown) by utilizing a sprocketless 16mm transfer bay such as the custom rig located at Bitworks.org. Other qualifying scanners include the flashscan (HD or Choice models) or the Müller HM73.

I have previously mentioned that JK Camera Bolex DS8 conversions can be easily modified to the UP8 format.
