As a filmmaker I thought, at first, that it was crazy. But since it wasn't (there it was) I thought - so when is a new Super8 camera going to appear? Surely it could.

But of course, this new Steenbeck has a much larger potential market than a new camera would, because even if the last S/8mm film was shot tomorrow, there would still be half a century worth of S/8mm films sitting around ripe for reviewing and transfer.

And the film transfer facilities, the large archive institutions - well they could afford this rather luxurious item.

In other words, it wasn't something made for filmmakers as such.
