Well everything is non-pathetic here :) I am not sure what is wrong at your side. Possibly a disappointing letter from the Tax Office?

There is nothing wrong with good memories of using Kodachrome and wanting to be enable to use all of one's stock without devastating hurry.

The urgence at Kodak is that they can close off the books on the unused paid-processing mailers and transfer the reserved money to the profit of 2010 or wherever. Likely this runs in the millions of dollars.

Letting Dwayne's the small profit of running this lab a year longer likely doesn't interest anybody at accountancy of Kodak.

Perhaps just hurry up and shoot it all? Processing B&W is incredibly expensive to have done by a lab. Best to shoot it all and move on...it's over. Really.

Actually, Andre, there shouldn't be any "unused processing paid mailers" if users had the sense to have accepted the lengthy notice they were given and exposed and sent their film for processing within the allotted time-scale. It's actually no different to buying a rail or air ticket in advance, deciding not to use it and then moaning about not being to get a refund AFTER the event.
Fortunately for me, no horrible letter from the tax man.... I haven't paid tax for several years since my income is way too low for that And when I was working (and on a low income, even then) I never expected my customers to tell me how I should run my business, just as I wouldn't have dreamed of telling them how to run theirs.
Useful lesson from all this... do not expect good things to last for ever. :(

We can mourne the loss of Kodachrome, it is a mini tragedy as it is a totally unique filmstock.

But really, all the films are beyond their expiry date already....we can hardly complain that Kodak aren't giving us the opportunity to have them processed in time.
The government says that by 2010 30% of us will be fat....I am merely a trendsetter :)

I understand these arguments but when Dwayne's makes good business on the current numbers of film going through. Why on earth would anybody want to stop it.

Considering the offerings here in the classifieds and in all kind of other places there is still plenty to go. And Kodachrome easily can be used when 10 years past offical expiry :) As discussed and experienced many times by most of us. Maybe get yourself a set of 10 and shoot some autumn scenes...

I was interested in the possibility of having it processed by some mad professor film whiz-kid who could come up with some experimental results but I'll say no more in case I get shouted at.

One of the people I know from the Czech analogue photography community is experimenting with processing Kodachrome. He's now getting quite usable results, though he does not do cine films yet (I may manage to convince him...)

here are some of his examples so far...

Worst case, I can always process Kodachrome for you as b&w monochrome.

Wow. While far from perfect I am totally impressed that he got anything close to correct color at all. Pictures one and three have some odd coloration but the second picture certainly is impressive. He should post a thread here about his process. Kodachrome isn't exactly a DIY medium. Tell him to keep it up!

The colours in the 1st picture are class! I'd hand deliver my film on a donkey to get those kind of warped colours.

I would say that the individual who achieved those results will have a good business after Dwayne's stop processing.

Possibly so...

But what kind of effort/cost in materials is involved in doing it, and at what price could the service be offered to make it worth his while?

I suspect it may well be only a labour of love.

Wow. That is just incredible. I had results from Kodak's Fairlawn plant that were worse than that.
