Film Interpretation Contest (FIC)

I got you added matt. Some of you have been mentioning in your PM's that you dont have transfer ability other than OTW for your films. As I have offered on here many times, I will gladly transfer your film for free on my WorkPrinter as long as you pay for shipping. That way you can get a good quality transfer if you dont want to go the OTW method.mattias wrote:hey, you forgot me on the list. i'm in with my nokia cell. ;-)

A few others have asked me that as well. Here was my response to them.keagan wrote:Hello John
Thanks for offering your workprinter, that's very generous. Can you transfer negative film on that as well?
Keagan
Well, yes and no, are you shooting color neg or black & white neg? I am able to do black & white neg (Generally TriX or Plux proccessed as neg to decrease garin) because I dont have to deal with an orange mask. But even as Roger Evans will say, the Workprinter isn't your first choice when it comes to transfering negative stocks.
Still, I would gladly give it a go for you, and see if you like the results!
We are almost a week into the contest. How is everybody doing? So far I have a rough draft of a script that is probably too complicated to pull off in the time I’ve allowed for myself. Still, I’m forging ahead! Week two will be used to finalize the draft and start working on some type of storyboards.
Let’s hear from our contestants. What are you working on right now?

Well, I don't have a whole lot of time so I hope I will manage to send the film in before the 25th of september; I am still working on another filmproject as well. So far I've been mainly brainstorming about a script for the competition. I have a basic idea I will be working on the coming time.

Wow, your script must be about time travel if you plan on getting the finished film in by the 25th of september! ;)paul wrote:Well, I don't have a whole lot of time so I hope I will manage to send the film in before the 25th of september..... i changed my mind. i'll use one of my fantastic recent dumpster diving finds, either the blimp house for my canon 814 with built in follow focus, pilotone generator and mattebox for 3x3 filters, or the hitachi vintage video camera, *fully functional* with a shoulder support thing that works great with super 8 cameras as well. i also found a working 16mm projector that only lacks a lens, a super 8 loop cartridge "tv" projector, two 16mm arri 400' mags with torque motors, a nizo 800, a bunch (!) of pilotone generators for bolex, canon and nizo, a bolex 12v motor for h16 with battery belt, an 8 channel vu meter, two 16mm guillotine tape splicers, various filters, lens shades, and lots and lots of other stuff that i don't remember. i'm obviously very excited. :-) pictures below:

nice finds Mattias
I've gotten two ideas for a script so far, trying to decide which one will be more possible in the time alotted. tommorow I'm going location scouting and on Monday I'm ordering film. Have a tentative idea of who I want to cast for the one script. Been thinking lots, but doing little!

I've been rereading this a few times, but, silly enough, I found the clue only after four times reading or so. December of course! I thought this was some kind of profound joke before I understood what it really was aboutMovieStuff wrote:Wow, your script must be about time travel if you plan on getting the finished film in by the 25th of september! ;)paul wrote:Well, I don't have a whole lot of time so I hope I will manage to send the film in before the 25th of september..... So far I've only thought of what format to use; Super 8 of course!
Just thought it would be convenient
Oh yes I decided just to do the cinematography, a friend of mine
will direct it.
Btw, John, I'll probably except that mighty generous offer of you to telecine the footage. Bless your heart!
thats just about it... Atleast for right now

Met with my team today... and helped them put the top back on their 1972 Ford Bronco.
We will write the script collaboratively during the next couple of weeks based on a story idea we'll pull from out of our... imaginations. 8O
We're meeting 10/22 and 10/29 to brainstorm, improvise and rehearse. Shoot is the week before Thanksgiving.
Format is 16mm. I've got a mishmash of Double-X Negative, EXR 200T and 500T. I'm probably going to strip test the color stuff to see how it looks, maybe drop it out to b/w. The Dbl-X is tested and looks great. I'll shoot with the Beaulieu R16 w/Canon 2.0 17-102.
EDIT: We'll do wild sound on the Nagra during the shoot. If I like the camera sound, I may keep it. If not, I'll use some ambient and loop it in post.
I think my wife will direct.
That's all I know.
