Their price for S8 Tri-X (with 30% discount) is damn near half of what I currently pay ($14 a cart plus tax). Delivery charges would hardly add that much per cart. I get paid today too

Has anybody been actually shooting any film, or is everyone just hoarding?

Today, I will be shooting 30 seconds of K40. Next Tuesday or Wednesday I want to start shooting for a short I am making (Tri-X). I am going to call Kodak tomorrow; those prices are unbelievable!

Freddie, I wish I had entered that worldwide 30 second thing. I'm pretty sure my 30 seconds would have been quite sunny and tropical 8) But I didn't because I felt that by the time it got here...I'd be back in the US already. Good luck with your short!

I'm gonna need more than luck! My 30 seconds might be sunny..or it might snowy. Global warming sure is taking it's toll here in Minnesota.

They say in Minnesota you can tell it's cold when the locals zip up their windbreakers. Broken out your long undies yet this winter?

Labs and Transfer Facilities

Post by John_Pytlak »

When looking for a lab, don't only go by price. One of the most important things a lab can offer a filmmaker is communication --- they understand what you need, and have personnel who can give you the "look" you want in your production when the film is printed or transferred. Consistent quality is also important --- talk to other filmmakers to find those labs that offer the best quality and value. Finally, convenience is important --- using a local lab offers the easiest communication, but if you do need to ship your film and use phone or e-mail to communicate with the lab, find a lab that is easy to reach and communicate with.

Here is a directory of labs:

And transfer facilities:

And labs that are members of the Association of Cinema and Video Laboratories (ACVL):

http://www.acvl.org/acvl_members.html

Here's a list of labs specializing in Super-8:

Labs and Dealers wanting to be added to the Kodak Super-8 Services Directory should fill out this on-line form:

Well, it was about fifteen degrees here back in late November for about three days. Then it gradually went back up to the high twenties, low thirties in December with a few cold days. Snowed heavy for one day, then the next it melted. In January, we had continuous days of mid forties and some days reaching the fifties! Definitely not a good year if you like winter. What year did you move to D.C.?

I moved last August, after 30 years in Mpls/St. Paul, and am definitely homesick. Minnesota has cold winters & warm people, Washington DC the opposite. They won't even give you the time of day here unless you know somebody important.

Does Kodak give you a better rate than $14.00 if you buy 10 or more?

Imagine, I pay $12.63 for a 100 ft. roll of wonderful 16mm Plus X negative for my Scoopic MS. It's great to live an hour away from Hollywood! It's sick how many movie film developing labs are around here. RGB lab processes 16mm color negative for 10 cents a foot! That's $10 for a 100 ft roll!!!! California rocks!!!!!! :D
You'd think there was a big film business there for some reason... now if they could only get housing prices down like film prices!
