How do you (let)transfer your films?
No matter if you do it yourself or let it done somewhere...
But I never see any results of the Tobin TCS TVT?

Or Rogers Sniper?

Both must give fine results..

I own two Workprinters (Jr and XP) which I use to transfer my own films and which will be part of the setup I'll use when I'll start offically my transfer business in France.
I'm very happy with the results I get from them, the only thing which could be better is the transfer of negative film, which isn't easy - although possible...

negative transfers w/ WP... quite possible. and if more people can transfer it, more people will shoot it... and in turn, kodak may put some more effort into R&D to improve and develop the negative super 8 lineup.

No idea. I just send'em off to Digital Video Factory, Düsseldorf, and two months later I have either a DVD or a miniDV tape. DVF are very secretive about their technology due to 'trade secrets'.

Re: How do you (let) transfer your fims?
The Tobin TVT-8 units are not so well known yet as we have only been making them since last November. There are roughly 35 of them in use and we have sold to Russia, Australia, Canada, England, Sweden, Denmark as well as to the USA of course (including two to the FBI.)VideoFred wrote:How do you (let)transfer your films?

Fred.
The earliest ones were "too good" if anything, the condenser lens illumination exaggerated small scratches and flaws in abused film to make them look quite objectionable. This has been fixed in the Type E and Type H versions that we are now supplying. Purchasers of the earlier units can convert them to the new models at low cost.
They are really not designed for the do-it-yourself hobbyist market, but we envision they will replace the hordes of dated and now mostly worn-out Elmo Transvideo units. The TVTs have a 3-motor sprocketed transport and heavy duty power supply, with welded steel case, designed to run and run nonstop in real time in a high volume commercial facility.
If anyone is seriously interested in buying one or two, we will do a short free transfer from super-8 or 8mm to an NTSC transfer. We can make DVD-R, MiniDV or Digital8 and ask that you supply the blank medium. Sorry but we cannot record PAL as we don't have a good recorder for this standard.

Hmmm, so the unit (or units) you sold to Sweden was a NTSC unit, although we have PAL standard here? :?

I didn't say that.Uppsala BildTeknik wrote:Hmmm, so the unit (or units) you sold to Sweden was a NTSC unit, although we have PAL standard here? :?
I said we don't have PAL recorders here in the USA to make sample transfers, since this is an NTSC country and none of our paying transfer customers here have asked for a PAL recording. We have made a number of PAL TVTs, probably about half of them.
If things keep up I suppose we may set up to also record PAL here. We can do PAL VHS but that is hardly a format to use for impressing people.

Aha, OK. I thought that you didn´t have anything that "recorded PAL" at all.
My mistake.
