Need help with Ferrania film.

Post by stef »

Hi,

Got a roll of Ferrania R8 Film on a Bolex 30,5 m spool. Bougt it for only 2 euro on Ebay.de. The film was cool stored and the seller told me it is Ferrania b/w film. The only thing he couldn`t tell me and I don`t know about it, is the Din / ASA rate....

Perforated direct on the film are the numbers:

32 78653 24

Nothing more!

Have looked on both ends of the film (spooled the film in darkness and cuted both ends). Nothing ! No more information, only 32 78653 24 .

Who knows, which films where produced by Ferrania on those old Bolex spools, with the round center, to fit the Bolex H8 camera.

Thanks, stefan

Hi Stefan,

Ferrania Italia S.P.A. manufactured only two B&W reversal MP films for amateurs:

- Panchro ISO 40 (very sharp, fine grain, high contrast film)

- Super Panchro ISO 100 (moderate grain, normal contrast)

Both filmstocks were released in standard 8mm and 16mm.

You must to do some tests to discover wich of both filmstocks is, adjusting the camera for example, as ISO 40 first, overexposing the film 1 or 2 f-stops (due the film age) and later do the same adjusting the ASA rate of the camera to 100.

The developing process of these films is very similar to Kodak Plu-X/Tri-X films.

Good Luck,

Carlos.
Carlos.
