I am trying to monitor the sound coming from my Nizo 4056 and I don't have the original headphones with the needed "5 pin din-domino connector"
I am trying to splice standard headphones to work with the existing connector. Does anyone know where I should be making my contacts on the 5 pin connector? I have already looked locally at an electronics surplus superstore for an adapter and found nothing.
Does the camera need to be set at 24fps and does it need a sound cart installed in order for the sound to be patched through?

After looking in the manual, there is only a schematic for the mic port.
Under the photo of the headphone port it states in German that the impedance is 1,5 KOhm.
Ok... finally I feel like I can contribute here (^_^)...
there is a switch in your 4056 that you will need to tape down to monitor... as for the cable, if you hold the plug so the pins face you and with the outer detent to the right, the two pins to the left carry the signal and the pin to the lower right is ground. hope this helps.

We are talking about the headphone socket on the camera and not the plug itself, right? What do you mean by "outer detent"?

ok from the camera then... looking at the socket(on the camera it's self) its the two bottem pins that carry the signal (mono only), and the upper right pin thats ground... the top left and center pins are unused.

So from what you are saying the flowing diagram would be correct?

yup thats it... i was fortunate enough to have received my 4056 (my favorite of all my cameras btw) from a film professor here in chicago. he made the exact cable you are looking to build. it was quick work to figure out what the pins connected to with the trusty multi-meter...
he used regular gaffers tape to hold the switch down in the film compartment, but i like to use a thin shim of styrene.
what are you connecting to? mini jack, headphones? the ground definately needs to be connected if your going to phones for you to get any signal. also, the internal switch must be depressed. not sure if both bottom pins need to be connected as i've not seen the schematics for the camera.

Thanks for your help. But I can't seem to figure it out.
It's strange that they would manufacture these cameras with something so non-standard. I've looked on ebay for this type of headphone and found nothing.
I'll probably just use my sound carts without audio and try recording audio in post or something.

hmm.. i wouldnt call a DIN plug non standard, not in the seventies, not in germany.
try ebay.de, search for DIN 5POL KOPFHÖRER.
