VISION2 50D Color Negative

I here Kodak just showed the new Kodak VISION2 50D Color Negative Film at IBC

Anybody think this is coming to s8 via Kodak?

The company is also previewing images recorded with the new KODAK VISION2 50D
5201/7201 color negative film, which is scheduled to be available in all
formats in October. Mayson says the new negative is designed to give
cinematographers more creative latitude while filming high-contrast exterior
scenes in bright daylight as well as shots in mixed color temperatures. The
film is also optimized as a recorder output film.

I'll believe it when I see it. Essay mentions 'out in all formats.' Does not essentially mean Super8 format. To Kodak, we are stuck in the land of 85 and 85B filters when shooting outdoors with a low ASA film stock. Talk of their 'geared for professinal cinematographers'! When it fits them, they give you 500T negative. When the 'professional' talk bothers them, they give you the 'amateur home video' talk! Very frustrating. Even with the new E64T, it does not make sense to have a low ASA with the T rating. This is when the 'amateur' spiel kicks in. Super8 'Professionals' do not work in daylight using low ASA! This is nothing else than a corporation molding and imposing its belief system of what constitutes a Pro and an Amateur when it comes to Super8.

Hola,

Let's not be so pesimist... It is likely that Kodak knows very well the potential of that new emultion in order to boost film shooting.

Currently in super 8mm, there is no official Kodak color daylight stock, only tungsten balanced. There is some logic in bring it to super 8mm and thus allowing shooting in daylight ambient without using optical filter.

KODAK VISION2 50D 5201/7201 color negative film. 8O I like the sound of that. I really hope when they say ALL FORMATS they also mean super 8.

It would be wise to release it in S-8, since it would be the finest grain stock ever, and the best images ever for S-8. I'd rather have a V2 50D than the 100T, and keep the 17 & 18.

Unfortunately, they don't- at least, not at this stage, according to John Pytlak's post here.

I understand Kodak's reluctance to release another neg stock in Super 8, but if they were to do so, then this stock seems like the ideal choice... unlike 100T, which is supposedly very similar to 200T in terms of grain, and in some ways less practical for Super 8 (in my opinion, anyway, which is based on theory rather than actual familiarity with these stocks).

Perhaps we should organize a Kodak petition for the future release of this promising stock. It looks like it could be the "perfect" negative super-8.

16mm is awash in Kodak daylight stocks all of a sudden. First the 100D, which is now available in 100', and now 50D NEG!

So I'm amped, b/c I'm mostly shooting 16 lately. But damn if they couldn't make ONE of those available in S8.

I'll make it easy, I don't even care which one (though the 100D would be much easier for me to scan at home). A Nizo 801, a slow daylight stock, and me on my bicycle. Please, Kodak?

We SHOULD care which one. The 50D Negative.

I am afraid that 50D for super 8 is "not in the plans" for Kodak at the moment. :( We will have to wait and see. Check out the info here:

Yes, I think this falls under the category of "it is the format of a home video amateur who always shoots in the kitchen at night with a low speed stock!" :-D It is unfortunate that the people in the category of "professional film maker who shoots under exisitng dim night light with 500T" NEVER EVER dares see the sunlight with 50D. In Kodak's book, Super8 filmshooters in the latter category are <b>VAMPIRES</b> so no need for 50D bwahahahahahahaha It is 1:15 am and I am a vampire, happy me!
