Well this is just grand!
I am seriously running out of good location to shoot in my area. First it was getting kicked out of wal-mart (which literally means I can't do any filming in any stores, and all we pretty much have here are stores!!!). And I was kicked out of my local airport, for walking into the plane parking lot (and they accuse us of terrorism!!!).
What is wrong with this world! Can't an indie filmer do permit-less shooting at all anymore?
This to me is just as bad as loosing kodachrome (which Im too afraid to shoot!)
Anyone else having this experience?

Shoot outside in the wilderness? Just make sure you aren't trespassing on some farmer's fields, and wear orange if it's hunting season ;) Most of my projects have been shot outside. I never obtained permits, etc. The only time I encountered any trouble was while shooting in an empty parking lot at 2 AM. The police showed up and said a woman had reported graffiti spraying in the area, which was obviously a lie. People will say anything if they feel uncomfortable or see something that they can't explain. No problems resulted from the brief encounter, and they left after making sure no vandalism was taking place. We went back to filming and finished up in about an hour.

I had my fair share of being "told' off filming in various places, and this was way before the world was terrorised.
The trick is to kindly "ask" for permission, rather than walk right in and start filming.
Don't forget nowdays "Big brother" is watching you where ever you go...you are scrutinised under CCTV cameras and being "captured" on tape while you are filming.
Good luck

And ANY attempt to shoot footage of planes around an airport is S-K-E-T-C-H-Y.
A while back I pulled into a commercial parking lot near LAX to get some shots of planes on approach. Within minutes--and I mean five minutes MAX--of setting up the tripod and camera, an airport security car pulled up to inquire what I was doing. I was told NO WAY, under no circumstances could I continue. I was told to pack it up and move on. Such is the state of things.
But I still can't figure out how they spotted me. Watch out. Hidden cameras EVERYWHERE.

I wish there was forest around here. I can't get my main man to go into the desert to shoot, and my other partners in crime can ONLY stay locally (thus creating this problem).
The problem is my partner in crime wants to do these movies with large casts, and wants prime location and look, for next to nothing. Whenever I suggest something that is able to be done, he thinks it would wind up looking like a backyard movie. This was the same guy a few years ago could have cared less about how anything looked, as long as it was fun to make. Such a hypocrite
I pretty much have to go 15 miles either way to get out of my area. 15 mintues east gets me downtown. Wait a minute! I hatched an idea
I think im going to ditch my current cast (which consisted of three of my friends, the main one im not on talking terms with at this time). I need to give them a good rest, since they think they can run the whole operation.
I have other friends who have been plain dying to be in anything. Im going to use them.

Your Homeland Security Tax Dollars are hard at work, hiring local security guys who's primary job is to stop loiterers of any kind, on corporate land.
Having a camera makes you an easy mark because security can act all tough when they have an encounter with you, as if they are "doing their jobs" while pretty much being sure you aren't a danger to them, for the most part it's a cushy deal in which the local filmmaker gets shafted. Sure a terrorist "could" pose as a camera person, but if a quick background check reveals the filmmer has lived in the area for a long time, that should count for something, but apparently it no longer does.
Now when it comes to Homeland Security saving a flooded town, ALL bets are off.

Do you have any smaller Airfields you could shoot? I live fairly close to a private airfield and I can get some pretty decent shots of planes throughout most of the day. I stand in the parking lot of a bookstore and wait. Of course they won't be Boeings but they get the job done.
Good luck.
Good luck.

Why would getting kicked out of WalMart mean you "literally" can't do any filming in any stores? If "all you have" are stores, I'm sure there's some that will let you do your thing. On my way back from London, I shot about half a cart of K40 in London Heathrow airport. I guess I went unnoticed because I used the smallest of all S8 cams (Agfa Microflex 100) and were rather secretive about it, hiding in corners and stuff. Shot security staff (who didn't notice me), Arabs in traditional clothes, some airport technology such as moving radar, and other stuff and people both inside and outside on the airport.etimh wrote:And ANY attempt to shoot footage of planes around an airport is S-K-E-T-C-H-Y.
