Classic surf moviefilm "Endless Summer"on Super8?

Post by Roel »

Does anybody know if "Endless Summer" is/was available on Super 8. Maybe even where to get it?

I believe it is available on DVD now but I would love to experience this movie on projected film.

Thanks,

I don't believe it was ever available in Super 8.
It was shot in 16 with a Bolex. The first time I saw the film was in July of 1964. Bruce Brown stood next to the projected 16mm image and narrated in person as he played the music track on a Wollensack tape recorder. He would have to stop or fast forward the music every once in a while to sync it up.
The next time I saw it was in 1966 at the Kips Bay Theatere in NYC. It was blown up to 35mm. The experience was overwhelming. I saw it about a dozen times that summer, making the trip from a little beach town in NJ in my '55 DeSoto with surf racks on top and my best girl at my side.
I've seen it so many times I probably know the narration by heart.
