Finnish Super 8 barbarian short film

Post by jukkasil »

For all Super 8 K40 fans, here is great looking (note: very brutal) short film from Finnish amateur group called "Insane Bastards", just load divx-version of that 7 minute film "Barbarium" from link:

http://www.insanebastards.com/ib/media.php

Or direct link to film:

http://www.insanebastards.com/barbarium ... barium.avi

I did WP-transfer for them during Autumn 2003.
Best Regards

Colors look great, it's only most of that footage is horribly out of focus.

The focus effects were ok with me, I enjoyed it. I was glad you classified it, so I could prevent my five year old from watching it. My teens would love it too... if I showed them...

It was a bit out of focus at points (tho maybe compression has made it less sharp too) but I thought the rough look suited the subject matter... it had a very 70's feel to it too...

Noticed some jitter where the film was almost kind of popping in and out todards the lens in one shot? Weird...

Anyway, Kvlt!

Very funny, although more than half of the film was titles...

It looked very grainy for K-40. I suppose this is masked widescreen?

I LOVE IT!

It's got the passion of blood spashing spirit and great to see those flying heads!

The angle of the hill side fights was just great!

How many reels of film did they used jukkasil?

Not much, I think I transfered them about 8-10 pcs. K40s if I remember right.

Funny, and it has a very adequated look.

Did they used an anamorphic lens?

No, it's cropped from normal 1.33 aspect ratio.

Absolutely loved it! Big furry guys bludgeoning and cleaving each other. And all to a Sergio Leone - type soundtrack. Brilliant. The soft focus stuff didn't bother me too much. For some reason it worked for me. I want more. Give me more. Now now now!

I absolutely loved it! But as many have said before, it was really out of focus. I assume you had the film scanned, am I right? Anyways the story wasnt the greatest but for a short it was satisfactory, there was one shot I would have removed, and thats the one when the big Barbarian stabs(light way of putting it) one of the other guys, while he's liying on the ground. The problem was that I couldnt see either the guy or the the body in the shot. I asume that happend because you cropped the image too much, nice job with the whole film though, creative angles made the film look like an actual film (excluding a couple of shots).
