8mm on the box (TV in the UK)

Post by wahiba »

Tonight on UK TV, BBC I think there is a prgramme about big liz ( when isn't there at the moment!) 21:00 BST (20:00 gmt, ust, zulu)

However this one is going to have a lot of personal recollections and I think there will be a lot of home movie material.

There was even one on Breakfast TV where the Jubilee bonfire set the local thatched cottage alight. His film ran out then so he pitched in to help.

It might even be available on the web as the BBC seem to be big there, judging by the radio requests from obscure parts of the world.

The Jamie Oliver cooking show seems to usually have a dozen or so 8mm clips and the titles are in 8mm too. Could be the cleverest film look digi yet, but I don't think so. Whats nice is that they don't try to make the drop-in clips as degraded as possible -you know the thing?- although it is clearly supposed to represent 'home movie' ie handheld etc. I think they get the camera person drunk before they give him the camera to hold too..

Please don't slate me too badly if if I'm wrong, I'm new!

Must admit I have not noticed, but then I don't go out of my way to watch cooking programmes (Deliah excepted!)

I will try and catch one some time a look closely.

Fake S8

Post by S8 Booster »

Hi.

Do not know about this show but have seen some Norwegian travellers programmes on TV recently that were filmed on a compact DV and intercut with something like superb bad S8 fake.

These films were shot in the Caribian Sea while travelling on a sail boat. In this case I hardly believe that they brought an extra S8 cam for "special" effects.

The footage was severly vigneted and looked like a very simple (real) DIY off the screen transfer with all it takes to look like real "bad" S8.

From this I assume that there is a S8 filter or plugin in some editing software that looks extremely "live" S8. Some of this is available as standard plugins in Adobe Premiere. Additional plugins are available from other suppliers, maybe even the fake S8.

However, do not know for sure if it is fake or not.

Jamie Oliver Super 8

The Jamie Oliver stuff is undoubtedly Super 8, not faked. Properly transfered too. None of the usual trying to make it look as shit as possible, which is nice to see. Very cool indeed. The Queen Liz stuff was really nice too.
