wide angle adapter compatibility

Post by simonsee »

Hi

I have a wide angle add on lens with a 49mm thread that i
want to use on a 55mm diameter lens.

A step up ring can be used, but won't there be a 3mm black circle
around the edge of the image?

Thanks

Simonsee.

actually the vignetting will probably worse than 3mm. You will have to zoom in to remove it, thus negating the advantage of WA lenses.

Usually you would prefer a WA with a large threading mount if a regular WA lens is not available for your camera.

would there be any disadvantage to using a wide angle adapter with a larger thread size over using one of the proper size?

While we're at the WA adapter topic: Does anyone know if there's a WA adapter with a size larger than 62mm? Preferably 66 or larger. I'm just looking for the simple screw on cheap types.

Any help highly appreciated!

Most wide angle lens require you to be in wide angle macro mode so zooming in is out of the question. A bigger wide angle lens may work on a smaller lens. I have tried the Canon wide angle 67 on the Canon 1014 electronic (58mm front lens) and it works if you set the macro position between the letters M and A in the word macro.

That Canon WA lens mentioned might have a filter thread of 67 mm. It could also work at a "bigger lens" than that 58mm lens of the Autozoom's.

Hope to see you with your forum soon back Andreas. We keep our fingers crossed!
