I'm looking at R8 Bolex's on Ebay. What's better? H8, P1 or P2.

btw, I'm loving the cheap late R8 models that run on batteries. I have 4 Gaf Titan IV's. Don't know why I keep buying them. A Nalcom ($2.99 only bidder) is due in the mail any day. And here's a Chinon Zoom 8 for $3.99.

Is anyone else shooting anything on these cheapies? They've got zoom, manual focus, manual f stop. They look cool to me, but I'm not enough of an expert to know if they have some inherent quality problem like crummy lenses or something.

And theres more......The Widescreen Centre in London are now offering Std8 transfers to DVD with all the qualities of their Super8 transfers. The reason is that "There is an upsurge in the market..."
To underline this they are now offering 100ft H8 spools of Cinechrome40 and,if demand allows, will add it permanently to their lists. However, the prices quoted to me by Tony Shapps were, for me at least, horrendous.
68GBP for the 100' spool PLUS,WAIT FOR IT! 28GBP to process it!! Christ,I will use 16mm Kodachrome, process paid at 32GBP if necessary.

In their defence though, they really are supporting the format for post work and is a credit to them, especially too for those that want their films sanitised to a digital format.

Still the cheapest for raw stock though is Photoworld at Llandudno (UK-Wales) at 22GBP including processing.

I have a small collection of high end Std8 cameras and when all is said and done,I prefer the useage of these cameras, real hands on stuff.

Hardly. $14 from John Schwind plus £7 processing by Kodak works out considerably cheaper than £22.

8O 8O 8O That's insane... I just checked and from John Schwind 100' is only about £21.50!!!!!

Why is so much 8mm film stuff over three times as expensive here in the UK!!?? I found the same thing when I bought std-8 a while back... I'd love to be able to just stroll down to Baker Street and buy some from the WS shop but I worked out it would be three times cheaper INCLUDING POSTAGE to order it from International Film!!

Surely it can't be THAT much more expensive to import to UK that to US? I know there's probably not as much of a market for std-8 here in the UK but still... where is that extra 2/3 of the price going!?!!

Grr.. :x

I like the Widescreen Centre, but I find that I can almost always get stuff much much cheaper elsewhere, as much as I'd like to support UK 8mm businesses! Tho there's still good old Quarzchrome which is nice and cheap!

Yes, they're fine. They ship immediately.

One of these places, presumably. Some of them seem to do Standard 8, although I haven't checked:

Alternatively, there's Frank Bruinsma in the Netherlands:

"I called Film and Video Services this morning and they will process Fomapan 25 foot rolls for $8.00 and 100 foot rolls for $16.00 plus $5.00 for the reel and can."

Hey, this looks good. I had suspected they might be able to do it (and their prices are very reasonable), and emailed them, but hadn't received a response yet.

Indeed, but add to that your postage charges and the fag of Paypal or international money orders and I would rather support home industry thank you.Where they send it to,or get it from,I dont give a flying F***k,their service and customer relations are exemplary and to me,that counts. What counts more is the fact that we CAN get it!
To tidy this up:were I to use Super8 then currently John Schwind really is favourite but,as I have said before,we are now in the middle of August and stocks of E64 are only to be found in Germany-and paying for stuff from there is horrendous.

from chambless:
FOMAPAN 100 ft. DS8 B/W Daylight Loading Spool Double Perforation (cz) ISO 100 Daylight / ISO 80 Tungsten
$15

For comparison to 25-foot rolls, that's $3.75 per 25-foot roll.

Yeah, it's impressively cheap, but that's only DS8. I haven't been able to find Foma that cheap in 100' loads for DR8.

You're right, it appears I read 'DR8' rather than 'DS8'.
