Parallax error on my non-reflex Bolex is minimal and manageable.BigBeaner wrote:If you have to money I would say the Bolex Reflex H16, Reflex is the important word there because there is no parallax error.

Go watch Spike Lee's "Get on the Bus". It's got a fair amount of K3 footage in it. Great movie anyway...

These need some color correction and there is a bit of jitter in the snow clip....but that's par for the k3.Sometimes I get a rock steady image....sometimes it bounces mildly.
These were done with a crystal motor but the spring wound one I have does just as well.I do notice an occasional vibration in it though that I think that may be coming from the spring.
Good cameras ..if you want rock steady registration though...you need a pin registered camera.

edgebsl - what's up with the images? They seem to be mildly posterized or compressed with only 256 colors or something. Do you have uncompressed versions?

there is a little compression there.
The 100t shots are grainy but the vison 2 stuff came out pretty smooth.
The video is fuji eterna and Im having issues with it because it came out way too gritty for a fine grained stock. We're doing some editing tomorrow so maybe I can publish a much larger video clip that is a lot clearer.
here's an eterna still:

Forgot to mention one thing!
If your using the plastic daylight spools that come with the K-3 be carefull!
These reels tend to be bent and thus not collect the film properly.
If possible, avoid using these as the take up spool. I have personally found them to be a the root of my K-3 jamming issues.
What happens is that the film will not wind tightly to the spool as it has warped spots that are to narrow and thus the film will not wind tightly as a result and eventually roll of the edge of the reel and cause all sorts of havoc in the camera.
just a heads up, don't want you ruining that K-40

After all that talk I ended up getting a Victor 16mm non-reflex for $46 with a bunch of filters off of ebay. Probably post more info later on it if needed.BigBeaner wrote:If you have to money I would say the Bolex Reflex H16, Reflex is the important word there because there is no parallax error. But hey, if a k3 does the job for cheaper and is reflex I would go with it. Even better is if you could somehow borrow/rent a H16 (yes I know owning is better).

I found this short-film sometime ago:

It was shot with a K-3.
