Edits from my footage over the past year

Post by utilityskate »

Hi everyone,

I shot my first few rolls of s8 film over the past year but I only just got my first projector recently. Anyways, I finally did a rough DIY telecine of the footage and made an edit. I broke that up into two files as follows for smaller size and took off the copyrighted music and uploaded that onto the 8mm ftp. BTW, I edited it to the music of Coldplay's (I think the songname was "See You Soon") for my own use, if you know their music, you can probably get a feel of the edit's original feel.

ftp://ftp.filmshooting.com/upload/video ... tropt1.m1v 3,483kb
ftp://ftp.filmshooting.com/upload/video ... tropt2.m1v 3,951kb

I also made a summary edit with the best footage. If you have a low bandwidth connection, just download this one.

ftp://ftp.filmshooting.com/upload/video/m1v/outsumm.m1v 2,463kb

Otherwise, if you don't mind the 10meg, download the quicktime instead. (Cinepak codec)
ftp://ftp.filmshooting.com/upload/video/mov/outsumm.mov 10,842kb

If anyone has problems with the codecs, please let me know and I'll try another one. Also please let me know what you think. Cheers.

This is my first telecine, as you can see, some of it is okayish while some has gnats / tramlines, next time I'll make sure the film and projector are clean before doing the telecine. My personal favourite clips are the sillohette shots and the really short timelapses that I shot manually (no interval timer) and handheld without a tripod. Also, as the footage was shot over such a long time, it was like reading a diary, seeing all the places I went and things I did all over again.

Oh, yummy, yummy. I really liked all of it. What to film has been such a headache lately, and this is, like, total inspiration :D and shows a lot of perspiration, too.

Your film is much better than the crap by the Hong Kong tourism authority promotional film which no doubt cost big bucks to produce.

Hi Everyone,

Can someone who watched my film tell me, are the tramlines / gnats on the film from during filming or during projection? How do you guys get your DIY telecine so clean?

Thanks for your comments! Just curious, where did you see some HK Tourism Authority promotional film? Are they showing these things outside of HK? By the way, some of my footage is taken in Taiwan, as I spent about 1/3rd of last year there.

The HKTA has some really bad produced-on-video adverts on TV here that are made to look like they were shot with a small handycam. But there is one I quite like called "HK have you eaten yet?", that one won some award and I must say it makes me hungry when I watch that.
