Nizo Ultra Wide Lens III scratchs

Post by tiagoncalves »

Hello every body! I have bought this lens on the ebay, but it has many little scratchs all over the lens. It looks like scratches caused by cleanings, not any deep scratch. If it was in a normal lens, I wouldn't mind, but this lens needs to be used in the macro mode, right? So, the surface of the lens would be focus. Would the little scratches affect the image in some way?

Well it depends how bad they are - my UWL has tiny scratches and they are not that visible, although the image appears fairly soft anyway. I bought mine for not much money, and it has scratches that are visible in the centre of the lens, so I tried very, very lightly coating the lens with ptfe spray just before shooting - it works but .. soft image etc... I might experiment with this high gloss stuff I put on my Triumph GT6 - it reduces light scratches on paintwork and dries very shiny & hard. Must check it's not going to melt the lens though - Don't try this if you paid much (ie over 10 bucks) for your lens.

Also the lens attracts dust like there is no tomorrow, it must be static or something. So I'm going to get a Canon C8 wide angle - glass, not plastic..

Mine as very small scratchs too, I will see the results.
And, maybe a translation problem but... what do you mean about soft image? Is the opposite of sharp image? Can you show me an example with a photo?
