Nizo and Standard 8 questions

Post by Fergus J. Ó MaoilEoin »

I have a Nizo FA3 Standard 8 camera. I haven't used it yet, partly because the clockwork motor stopped dead shortly after I bought it :roll:, and I have to take it to be fixed. Looks like a good camera, anyway...

Anyway, while I'm waiting, I was wondering if anyone can tell me the purpose of a lever on the side of it. It's located beside the handle for winding up the motor. If you slide it back, it reveals the numbers 0, 1, 2, 0. Its proximity (indeed, attachment) to the frame-rate selector suggests the two are connected in some way. It could be for shutter speed, although the exposure meter doesn't seem to move to compensate when I change from one number setting to another. It's probably something rather self-kickingly obvious :oops:.

Here are some pictures:

Also, is it alright to use a 1.3 volt battery (for the light meter) when the specification is 1.35? The battery I'm using is also smaller than the compartment it's supposed to fit, but it seems alright.

Regarding the notorious thickness of Fomapan film, would it help if I ran the film through the camera with the lens covered first to loosen it, or would this make a difference? It seemed to handle it fine when I did, anyway.

Any help appreciated.

Although I don't have this camera myself I reckon the lever controls the angle of the shutter as you suggested.

So what exactly do the numbers represent?

There is a web page in Italian about this camera including the manual if thats any help, you could use Babelfish for the translation. Or try emailing the guy for any info.

0=open
1=quarter closed

Thanks.

By the way, does anyone know the likely cost of getting this thing repaired? That is, in a country with not too many competing camera repair shops. The problem doesn't seem too great. Just a dead clockwork motor, which I presume is simple enough to fix.

Well unless it went bang when it stopped,it has probably only jammed due to dried out lubrication.Try putting a silicone based lubricant down behind the handcrank-TINY DROPS AT A TIME! and see what happens.
