It could be, certainly as far as I know the BBC holds *nothing* of its own broadcast of the moon landings and is desperate to recover anything they can.

You're the type who would know as well as I do that clips of certain Doctor Who epsiodes that were wiped exist only as 8mm off-air filming...usually rather blue instead of green! Eg, they have the hugely important moments right before Hartnell's regeneration into Troughton only because of an 8mm film (the regeneration istelf is preserved because Blue Peter used in in 1973 and the Blue Peter show still exists).

Angus: "I retreived some open reel home VT's from a jumble sale in 1993 that had been stored dreadfully...revealed pristene recordings of the 1980 Wimbledon final and of Voyager 2 being launched."

Wow, sounds like you hit the jackpot at the flea market. Only once in a while, I score something special at such places.

I knew what format the tapes were in...what was even more strange was that two months later I found myself at the Notting Hill Music Exchange and they had a bunch of the 1/2 inch EIAJ machines on which to play the tapes. The staff had no idea if the machines worked so I picked up one for under £30...of course I had to lug the beast round the tube system but it was worth it!

Nothing on my tapes is a missing programme of course, but tapes just 3-5 years older could conceivably have missing material on them.

Back to the Topic...

I think TV stations are concerned about shows being turned into Bit Torrents...

HD capture cards in Australia start at $100 dollars and produce awesome picture quality with 5.1 sound.

A mate gave me Ten eps of Lost converted from HD to divx, they look awesome.. DVD quality

long live HD capture cards I say..

I work night shift, so i'll be investing in quality HD card so I can record my favourite show called Myth Busters.
It's not the size that counts, its what u do with it!

Eventually, Media companies will figure out a way to a monitor a computer's algorithmic playback waves and "match" visual and audio sequences being played to copyrighted films in their data base, and you'll be busted.

mUUUUUUwahhhhaaaaa
