Leicina Super & Super RT-1 differences?
Ok, Leicina owners out there, (and I know there are some diehard owners that lurk here...). Can anyone tell me the difference between the Super and Super RT-1, if any?
Tell me why this 8-64mm lens kicks ass.
Is your gate registration really that much more solid than other cams? Convince me...
Thanks for the info! -Eric

Re: Leicina Super & Super RT-1 differences?
hmm.. let me see (takes out his special and RT ;)
speed and controls are the same, the main difference is indeed the lens. on the RT, 8mm is not wide enough for a high end cam imo, but the reason why i hardly use it is the flimsy aperture control. the special has a full manual iris ring on the lens, gotta love that.
anybody needs an RT? ;)

I've had each of these in the past and have a store dummy of the Super 8)
The Super RT-1 has backwind for dissolve, time exposure single frame, and 9, 18, 25 fps. Super has only 18 and 24 fps. Same lens. Both are compatible with the ST-1 controller (intervalometer, sync generator and battery box).
I got great images that seemed more contrasty and saturated than a Beaulieu 4008 8-64mm I used...but I don't think it is fair to compare single examples of 30 year old cameras against each other
Honestly don't remember the registration being better or worse than my other cameras.
P.S. I have manuals and brochures if anyone needs a scan

Ok, so this poses another question. Glad this was brought to my attention via Christoph's post. I didn't realize that the Leicina Special and the Super/Super RT-1 were different cams. Now I have more questions.
So is the Special a vastly different cam than the Super/Super RT-1? What does the Special have for a lens as compared to the Super/Super RT-1? Sounds like the Special actually has f-stops on the lens barrel as well?
thanks for the info guys..

as said, the functions are basically the same (the body looks a bit different) the only difference is the lens, the Special having a 1.8/6-66 optivaron (a variant of the lens sometimes used on the beaulieus). and yes, it has a proper iris ring with f-stop marking like every decent cam should have ;)shralp wrote:So is the Special a vastly different cam than the Super/Super RT-1?

or the cinegon 10mm prime- perhaps the most perfectly corrected super8 lens of all!! (OK- so they say ;-) ) It has a Leica m-mount so you can use other legendary lenses or find adapters to use lots of other 35mm lenses (I have been using a few Takumars with mixed results)the Special having a 1.8/6-66 optivaron

The Special accepts lenses in Leica M-mount! From Leitz you could get a version of the Optivaron zoom (with or without Leicinamatic motorized aperture and power zoom) and a 10mm f1.8 Cinegon. They also made adapters for Leica R lenses, microscopes, and endoscopes 8Oshralp wrote:What does the Special have for a lens as compared to the Super/Super RT-1?

EDIT: Sparky beat me to the answer
Where the hell is Santo?
SAAAANNNNTTTTOOOOOO????????
Never has a leicina thread gone by w/o long-ass posts from Santo.
Santo? Falling out of love?
I bet he's sleeping with an older woman -- a 16mm Bolex? Probably a sleek SBM. Santo, are you fooling around with Lunar07's SBM? I know it's not an EBM... Santo may be a camera slut, but he's old fashioned and kind of sentimental.
Santo? Hello?

I think it was Santo who said the Super was made for film geeks while the Special was made for scientific purposes.

Thanks for all the info guys. So my next question is:
How available are these Leica Specials out there in the used market and more importantly, how available are the nice M-mount lenses, M-mount to other lens adapters, and something like that Cinegon 10mm?
The Special has 18, 24, and 54 fps, yes?
Don't get me wrong, I love my Nizo Professional, and I'm trying to love my Beaulieu 4008, (its hasn't been easy), but if I could see what the Special is capable of with nice pieces of glass, a good gate, and being able to shoot slo mo as well, then damn....
Super nice shot by the way, Reed... Real Purdy!
