I think my computer screen slightly blackens out the darker tones, add in compression which also knocks out some of the darker tones, then add in the small size of the screen, which further can make the image look dark in places, and it's hard for me to view it the way you meant it to be seen.
The music sounds slightly distorted.
I liked the shots that had more brightness to them, very effective use of the dirt and dust ( "negative dust strands") usually found at the front and back of each cart of processed negative.
I would love to see a bigger picture at higher resolution so I can make out the subtleties more. The download was instant, I would be willing to wait a minute or two to see a higher resolution version.

looks cool man.
compression from the codec removed most of the grain.
1. lots of dust specs, your choice or a dirty neg not cleaned by the lab?
color are nice, neutral for the most part. The cool blue was a nice correction in the hallway. red was alright too, would like to see how it bleeds on a tv monitor.
2. i like the ramping and speed changes, all in camera non?
3. the reverse stuff, was that in camera or post?
4. when you panned, and ramped from reg speed to fast motion (on the pan) to reg speed, in camera or ramping in post?
5. how much film did you shoot for this film?
6. where did you process/xfer?
didn't like the mirror image stuff, seemed like a cheesy 80's effect you just threw in there, too disjointed and didn't fit in with the rest of it. (in my opinion).
great work, nice to see someone putting the neg stuff to use.

1. lots of dust specs are our choice and because ther were only at the end of each rool of S8
2. the ramping and speed changes are all direct with the camera

I tried to find place for a better image.Alex wrote:I think my computer screen slightly blackens out the darker tones, add in compression which also knocks out some of the darker tones, then add in the small size of the screen, which further can make the image look dark in places, and it's hard for me to view it the way you meant it to be seen.

what vintage colors? desaturated and brown/blue, sure, but isn't that how people normally scan negative these days? it looked kind of conventional i thought. don't take that the wrong way popman. i think it's really cool that you can make a video on super 8 that looks just like a 16mm one. and i like the song.

I noticed the brown/blue colors thing (except for that hallway footage which I didn't like that much) but found it more saturated and film-looking than I was afraid modern stocks with modern formulas might look like. I've seen independent films from the 70s that looked like that video.
