Vision 200T & 500T with Canon 310XL
Just wondering if anyone could share any experiences
with using the 310XL with these negative films?
Somewhere I have read that when you use an XL
shutter with the 200T that it makes it more like
you are shooting a 400 ASA film. Any truth to this?
And I've wondered what the picture looks like
shooting 500T in dim lighting with the 310XL having
it's light meter blocked off, so that it's wide open.
Any hints for using any notching mods to the 200T
cart, or use of neutral density filters over the lens
or light meter?

v200t: sets to 160t/100d
v500t: sets to 250t/160d no fil
for the 500t a suitable filter over the lens wil set the exposure as close to 500 as you want.
some sample clips:
200t - 88mb v200t
fuji f500t: sample image somewhat colour corrected in post:

So you're suggesting here to use a 1-stop neutral density
filter over the lens with the 500 film?
And I know the owners manual recommends to use
a neutral density filter over the lens when shooting
160 outdoors. Do you think the same advice would
apply to the 200T?
I haven't been able to find the Kodak 500 film around.
Anyone know a supplier in the US?

Re: Vision 200T & 500T with Canon 310XL
haven´t calculated the value but i guess you will be fine off with it. i shot without any filter and it did not seem to hurt with the fuji. never tried the new kodak 500 though. it is neg film and can take a lot by overexposing but i suggest you to make a trail with both.Brackish wrote:for the 500t a suitable filter over the lens wil set the exposure as close to 500 as you want.

this was most likely only or most valid for reversal films. i do not think you need to use that filter with the 200t. i used none. And I know the owners manual recommends to use

If your shooting in dim light, giving it all you got with the 500T won't hurt anything. almost all of my night or existing light experiences with V2500T have been with a 220 shutter, all the way at 1.4, 24fps. my films have never been overexposed.. in some cases I would have push processed 2/3rds if it were 16mm.
100D and Vision 3 please

yes, it will allow you to use the film specs as originally intended by kodak, expose it at ISO 160T and 100D by using the 85 filter accordingly.Brackish wrote:I just got some 200T in and noticed that they made the
cart so that the daylight filter in the cam cannot be
activated. Why did they do that? Would it be advisable
to notch the cart out so as to be able to activate the
daylight filter?

i use a wall paper knife but with care. a wire cutter/plier should be suitable too.

Presumably over the metering lens and not the camera lens, assuming the two are seperate. If they aren't seperate then using an ND filter won't make much difference.Brackish wrote:for the 500t a suitable filter over the lens wil set the exposure as close to 500 as you want.

You gotta be the same brackish from VU....
I'm uploading some raw footage from a wedding I shot using V2 2/500 T.
It's kinda big (45 Mb), even when compressed (DivX). Most of the shots are indoors under dim light. I used a Nizo 561 wide open (I think it's f1.8 ). My light meter suggested f1.0. I had it rank transferred under one-light, so any under exposure might be compensated for at the transfer stage.
Your Canon 310XL will probably think it's holding 160 or 200 speed film, so filming under low light will force it to be f1.0, which will probably be ok in a dim reception hall or church. Thankfully, negative film has a little more latitude than reversal, so under- and over-exposure can be adjusted during transfer (up to a point).
Unless you have a camera with adjustable aperture, I think you're better off just winging it and adjusting in post. The problem with the 310 is the automatic aperture.

Actually, wouldn't it be placed over the camera lens????Freya wrote:Brackish wrote:for the 500t a suitable filter over the lens wil set the exposure as close to 500 as you want.\

VU??? What's that?
I would like to see what you've shot. I took my cam out today, with
no film, just to get an idea what I'm facing out doing gigs,
with different light levels.
Let me know when I can see what you've uploaded.

I dunno, it's all very confusing.Brackish wrote:Freya wrote:Actually, wouldn't it be placed over the camera lens????Brackish wrote:for the 500t a suitable filter over the lens wil set the exposure as close to 500 as you want.\

If the camera is rating the film at 200ASA, you would want to slow your film down by putting the filter on the camera lens right?
Putting the filter on the metering lens would make the apeture open further, which it is already doing anyway because it thinks it is a slower film.
I'm just explaining this now as I don't have a clue what I meant when I made that posting and I didn't explain, so I honestly don't know.
I'm sure it must have made some warped sense to me at the time tho.
but what I'm saying above makes sense right?
