Do we really?

I often question if I am crazy, as people often tell me, for using Super8 instead of video. Why, I ask myself, do I put myself through it. I can't easily shoot indoors, have to sync up sound, worry about footage, worry about camera noise, worry about exposure, worry about jittery cartridges, worry about whether I have actually got the scene in the bag.

Viewing the footage can often make it all seem worthwhile, but still....this is a madman's game! We're all nuts - the guy's right - this is eccentric stuff we do, an no mistake. I have said it before and I'll say it again - if anyone out there wants to swap me a Digibeta cam for my Super8 kit, you're on. I still don't own a video camera, but would like one for making a black and white film - I hate DV colour, but black and white's not so bad.

According to, I believe, sources at the Widescreen Centre the K40 S8 film sales has tripled in the past 2 years.

JAKES PROGRESS:

Says Jake: "Two bits of news this week. One is that we are now supplying Kodak Vision 200T negative colour Super-8 stock process paid as well as in the non-process-paid form. This is a professional service, and what's more you get a Tuesday to Monday turnaround at the processing stage. That can't be bad.

My second bit of news is about the 'bog-standard' Kodachrome-40 stock. Such has been the success and demand for Super-8 stocks over the last couple of months that we have drained Kodak dry of their supplies in the UK and - at one point they were actually rationing stocks to us! Fortunately, they hve now fully restocked, but they tell us that sales of this Super-8 material has increased threefold over the last couple of years...much to their surprise, I might add"

You can contact Jake, as usual, either on 020 7935 2580, or eMail him at:

mailto: jake@widescreen-centre.co.uk

Either way, you can be guaranteed some of the best advice.

p.s. He tells me that he has now received some of the excellent Capital Light Meters back in stock. They're a snitch, with the cheapest Selenium-celled model (ideal for cine work) at around GBP 35.95 - and it never needs a battery! You can get one by contacting us at:

As I remember, it's a rear projection studio shot.
Wrong! There is no rear projection. There is a venetian blind on the back window. You cannot see out of the car.
Isn't it a stationary shot in a car, now I think of it?
Right! The lights of passing cars are actually a single light on a dolly which grips would push past the car, turn off, push the dolly bact, turn on the light and repeat.
