Matteboxes and Compendiums !

I just read some old topics about trying to find a suitable matte box for a 4008, about the EWA mattebox and some other bits and bobs.

IÃ‚Â´m not a guru like Roger or Pedro, I just thought I had to contribute a little.

While trying to find a m-box/rod system that will fit my recently aquired Iscorama 54, and give support to the heavy lens combination of the AM + 6-80 Angenieux, I have found a number of different ones of which you guys are probably already aware... :lol:

IÃ‚Â´ll start out with the more "low-end" ones...

The EWA S8 matte box/compendium

It can the found here for 69 EUR. I think Wittner-Kinotechnik might also have one or two.

The Bauer 709 xl "Profi-Set" comes with a matte box that looks very similar to the EWA matte box... there are actually a number of Bauer's and other S8 cameras that comes with m-box but I donÃ‚Â´t know all of them.

I have a Bauer 709 xl Profi-Set for sale by the way. Email me for pics and info if interested.

ok, on with the list.

There was a bellows matte-box made for the Bolex 16mm camera which can be found browsing ebay.

Lindahl makes compendiums and lens shades for 35mm still cameras.
The 'Ultra EFX 2000' seems possible to use for our purposes.

Chrosziel makes good (read expensive) mattebox/rod system/fluid zooms etc

ItÃ‚Â´s like you put the camera on a matte box and not the other way...

Cavision my personal favorite. Expensive! These rigs both are and look GOOD.

There are a couple of others too like Cinetech and Panavision and so on...
Otherwise, you might always use a matte box you find on ebay from an old Arri or any other filmcamera...

Or why not build one yourself ?

Since I canÃ‚Â´t edit the posts made by "Guest", I had to make an input here instead...

I have found out that there are a few versions of the EWA S8K compendium.
There is the Nizo version, which is top-mounted. (can be seen at the top of this thread.)
BUT: "The silent cameras, such as the Nizo Professional and Nizo 801 macro, don't have a mount on top, so it can't be attached (without modification)." - Super8 guy's link directory.

However there is also the original version:

And again, mounted on a Beaulieu 4008...

It also fits Bauer 512, Beaulieu 5008s and a NUMBER of other cameras...
I think Jukka has one on his 512. See above posts for a link to his Cinemascope test.

Also here is a modified Bauer 709/715xl mattebox/compendium attached to a 7008s!

Building your own rods system would not be that complicated. I'm actually drawing sheets for building mine for a Beaulieu ZM4 ( but not still shure of this camera because of that damn 1/90s shutter ) + Kowa 8z on the 8-64 angenieux. First thing to do is to remove the handle of the camera in order to make it flat base ( like the one of Super8sound ) : very easy to do. For 1/4 pin hole & camera attachement, I'll use old photo camera leather bag screw. Then, rod system is easy to build.
I personnaly think that EWA compendium is shit ( I should not tell you that since I'll probably want to sell mine but ... ). I might build my own from an old photographic chamber.

Perhaps you're on a different computer or your browser doesn't accept cookies?

what? i was sure that option was just for looks. ;-) it never worked for me either on any computer or browser i've tried ot on.

Really? It's working fine for me on all the computers I'm using (currently 3). I'm on PCs running Win2000 primarily with the latest IE.

ok, how is it supposed to work? i log in, check the auto box, and when i come back to the site, on the same computer and often even the same browser session i always have to log in again. in fact i don't notice any difference whether i check that box or not. this has been tried and verified on mac os9 with ie and mozilla, mac os x with mozilla, windows 95 with ie and ns4, windows 2000 with ie and xp with ie. same thing.

Auto log On works perfect on all my MACs with Explorer or Mozilla browsers by checking the auto log on box. I think the Win98 Snip Toshiba LAP Explorer works auto too.

Tried to delete the cookies and/or cache register lately?

here's what i just tried:

went to http://8mm.filmshooting.com/scripts/forum/login.php, logged in with the auto box checked.

restarted mozilla

went to http://8mm.filmshooting.com/scripts/for ... um.php?f=1 and i was not logged in.

and another test:

went to http://8mm.filmshooting.com/scripts/forum/login.php, logged in with the auto box checked.

opened a new browser window.

went to http://8mm.filmshooting.com/scripts/for ... um.php?f=1 and i was not logged in.

there are no cookies set for this site, not does the site try to set any cookie when i log in. the only thing identifying me seems to be the sid string appended to the address, and that is obviously lost when i quit the browser or open a new window.

Assuming you do not run Swedish versions of the browsers?
Could be an error there.
Does the Auto Log On work for other sites?

Found this under Explorer help. Belive this procesdure similar to the one you use.

Store a site password

1. Go to the Web site that requires you to enter your user name and password.
2. In the dialog box that appears, enter your user name and password, and then select the Remember Password check box.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

If the dialog box does not appear when you go to the Web site, you do not need to store your site password in Microsoft Internet Explorer. The Web site stores your password for you.
After you store a site password, anyone who has access to your computer can visit the site by using your stored password.

well, that's the remember password function built into the browser. all it does is fill in the username and password for you so you don't have to remember it or even type it. i have no problem getting that to work. i thought we were talking about the checkbox on the login page. somehow i just assumed that a "log on automatically each visit" function was supposed to log me on automatically on each visit. :-)
