Express k-40 development

Post by istvan »

Hi!
I don´t know if this is old news to you, but judging from some other postings, it is (as well as it would beto Kodak Norway and Denmark, if they bothered to read this excellent forum - as somone else put it in another post, in Kodak it doesn´t seem as if the right hand knows what the left hand is doing). So, what I discovered to my joy was that I can send my K40 not only directly to Switzerland (as I´ve always done), but add some cash and get it instantly developed and sent back. I read this on the following webpage: http://www.super8.nl/english/e_index.htm

"This is the latest news about Kodachrome K40 news.
Your super8 Kodak K40 film can be processed in one day by Kodak Switzerland Lausanne. You should add a little letter with your film that says that you want 'one day processing', don't forget your name and address. Also add 10 Swiss Francs or 5 English Pounds or 15 DM. Kodak will process and return your film the same day, if it has arrived before 09.00AM, otherwise it will be developed and send the next day. This is there LAB address:
Kodak Switzerland
1, Avenue Longemalle
CH-1020 Rennens Switzerland
phone 0041 216310589 "

Well, knowing how things never are as good as they used to be in the super8-world (or, at least that´s the way it used to be in the good old days before all these new stocks), especially as something called the Euro seemed to have happened since this was written, I contacted Kodak Norway, they´d never heard of, neither had Kodak Denmark, I contacted the author of the webpage for confirmation, he said the deal was still on, but that I should check with the lab directly, to be completely sure. So I called them today (not on the phonenr. given above, but on 0041216310111, thank you S8booster!), and they said the following:

Yes, we will express-develop your film, in on day, provided you add an extra envelope stating you want one-day processing, and containing the following amount of Euros in relation to the number of films sent in:

1-2 films: 8 Euro
3-12: 13 Euro
13-25: 15 Euro
26-50: 16 Euro

They will also express-mail it back to you (I don´t know exactely ehat that implies). Disclaimer: I haven´t had the time to try it myself yet, but I´ll do it as soon as the weather is sunny enough for me to shoot a new test.

It´d be nice to know if this was common knowledge/practice, and if anyone has any positive/negative feedback on this system. But it definitely is good news not having to wait the odd two-four weeks!

is the money that you have to include in addition to the regular processing mailer or can you just send the film and that amount?

Maybe the use of this service is why processing for everyone else takes so long :-)

Sorry to tell you that buddy, but for us ( at least in France, I'm not sure for the rest of europe ) K40 processing is free. Mailer is automaticaly included in K40 package. There's no K40 package sold without the mailer. & the price of it is nearly equal to other filmstocks processing excluded.

The core of the express processing is:

1) The K40 includes free processing as usual in Europe.
2) Against some additional fee it is possble to get a 1 day express processing.

yes, super8booster,
that´s the point: processing is free, but if you want to do something slightly professional, you might not want /have time to wait for all the other homemovies to be developed first. So therfore you add some Euros IN ADDITION to the free mailer.

Got them back, it works!

Hi, just want to confirm that the express development/return mail returned after five working days, which is quite good, I reckon. So if you need your film back fast, you can still shoot k40. I for one am quite happy for that.

I've considered going for the express option but haven't done it yet. Almost like the 'old days' when I could send an Agfa A40 film on Monday and expect it back on Friday or Saturday :)

Still the 2 week wait is sometimes part of the fun, anticipation they call it!

Can you still send UK pounds or is it only euros now?

I still find it amazing that I can buy K40 process paid for under 10 pounds now...in real terms it's cheaper than when I started.

I´ll just add that my reciept for express development said 10 pounds (two films), although I had paid in Euro – so I guess you can still pay in pounds, but ask kodak directly – use the phonenumber stated above (kudos to super8booster).

http://www.7dayshop.com £8.99 plus 95p per order

I think the photomart prices are without VAT

Has anyone any experience of using them? don't you need an account?

I now always buy K40 from 7dayshop, cheapest source in the UK by some margin...price includes VAT and postage is 95p for your whole order.

They also now do some accesories such as reels, splices, leader (red & green) and so on....and I am trying to talk them into selling tri-x,, plus-x and 7240.

I gather they are selling K40 by the truckload :)
