I would definatly like to go to the course in Detroit, since I'm located right outside of the city. Unfortunatly I don't feel like making more payments to my already large debt!!

If anybody goes to any of them, please let us know how it went.

I am in Austin, Texas and I see this thing is coming here. Austin, Texas has a Super8/16 mm local collective where you can take a course with actual filming.
If you have such collectives in your city, head there and register is such courses - where you actually shoot film and get instruction by a Pro. Then head to Amazon.com and look for used copies of Kodak Workshop series of books, and use them. Then get the Book 'Cinematography' (forgot name of author).
my cropped 16/9 pennies worth...............

I assume you are refering to the cinemaker co-op's workshops? While they seem to be offering some good stuff, the kodak workshops aim is a bit different. I personally would love to attend them, but at that price there is no way it is going to happen.

'Cinematography' is by Kris Malkiewicz, good book with lots of pictures. A little outdated in some respects but not enough to be a problem. 'Film Lighting' by the same author is a really good book for anyone interested in lighting.

Hello,

I'm almost always in Austin Texas too. I'm in Houston sometimes but my main residence is in Austin.

Austin Cinemaker co-op and Flicker are here too. Those guys sometimes offer classes for cheap. Check out some of the half-price books in town, or the one near the UT campus. It usually has some good books on film.

Cheers,
Nick

Yes that is the one.
I personally never cared for these seminars (kodak ones) :) But I can see why others would care.
