I just saw this new software that came out for the mac. Would this be good for the workprinter? thought i'd give a heads up.

I'm not a Mac user, but I couldn't help but notice that they have a picture of a Nizo Super8 camera at the top of their web page. I wonder what the story is there...

A slight correction Digivid:

If you look carefully, you'll notice that it is indeed a "Pro8mm N" or whatever they call their quadruple priced Nizo Pro.

I guess iSM can only be a good thing for Mac WP owners - it's bound to work, as it's surely a simple mouse click triggered capture program. Roger?

I don't know why I care - I don't even own a WP, though I would like to one day. :D

Actually, on further reading, such as in the site's forum, it looks crap - buggy, ugly, prone to crashing and extremely slow. Oh well, it will get better, I guess - it's very new and probably shouldn't have been released yet.

by looking at the version number (v0.3) it seems that this software is still in Beta, which would explain the state it is currently in. Basically this means it hasent actually been released yet, they are simply providing it for brave people to use in order to help them find bugs. Of course they really should make this a lot more clear on their webpage.

Hi guys,

the story behind the Super8 camera icon is that we used the camera in the late 70s to do stop motion animation when we where kids as the camera can take single frame pictures.

iStopMotion 0.3 is indeed not yet a polished, commercial grade software, but it works well. The crashing problems are few and far between why we are happy to have a lot of "brave souls" out there trying it out and providing us with valuable input. A lot of people do real serious work with the app already.

If you have a Mac, you are invited to enjoy it.

Cheers,

Oliver.

Bugger

Post by digvid »

Again, I am not a Mac user, and I don't write software for the Mac, but I did write a stop-motion software package for the PC. In terms of making this work with the WorkPrinter, I can say that it was an absolute bugger getting it to be fast enough to keep up with the 6 fps WorkPrinter capture. There is one Mac program out there already that works with the WorkPrinter (see Roger Evans' website) and I understand that the programmer had to do some special things (that were outside the norm) to make it fast enough for the WP. I would be interested in seeing someone try iStopMotion with the WP to see if it keeps up. Also, how many Super8 Mac users are out there anyway? What is the PC/Mac ratio? As a software developer, I would love to know that.

There is another one here for the MAC: Framethief.
http://www.framethief.com/screenshots.html

It is looking good but I have no idea if it can cope with the 6fps of the WP. There is a manu to set the "trigger" options (hotkeys) like mouse, tab • • • etc.
Sound syncing and all.

Pretty extensive.
