16mm 2R 7276

Post by studiocarter »

That is, Plus-X Reversal - double perf. You can't get there from here would be another apt title.
From what I read here a 16mm thread may be welcome, even helpfull. So, here goes.
I happen to own and collect the DIY 16mm stuff (it's cheap to get) and have single and double perf 16mm cameras. The Bolex H16 that I have, low serial number and older pull down claw, has drive wheels with two rows of spikey teeth so it needs double perf film or 2R. Just try to get some of that!
It was able to get in the US, but they at Kodak had to look for it.
Here in the UK I was told that, "No one has EVER tried to order that film, ever. It is not even in our catalog."
Kodak UK offered to get it from Colorado as a special order for me which would require a minimum order and 9 weeks. No thanks.
I just thought that was interesting. Plus-X reversal is a pretty standard film type even in 16mm but only single perf is available mostlikely because of the Super16 use of it.
DIY film makers. Have you shot any? What do 2R 16mm filmakers use for film other than negative?

Yes they do.However 2R 16mm film is like gold dust to obtain. But to every story there seems to be an alternative as I recently wished tp purchase some Kodachrome 2R and was told that Big K no longer produced the stuff, only in 1R.
OK I accepted this as my Bolex is an old (1959) version but with a single sided sprocket,so really it did not matter that much and went along on my way.
Imagine then to my utter surprise a UK based outlet offering both 1R and 2R Kodachrome gauranteeing it being fresh long dated stock.Sure enough it was.
Who is kidding whom?
Hey-Ho!, keep taking the tablets!

The Kodak catalog linked to off the UK Kodak site is a US one and does not show if 1R or 2R superficially at least. There must be a different catalog which the UK branch uses; I have requested a copy or a link.

Do you have a current source of the 2R?

Lees Cameras in London or Bristol Cine Sales right on your doorstep have recently advertised 1R & 2R product.
Would try Lees first though.
