In between there has been too little about film lately and too much about non film so I take the chance to post some clips from an old movie I made together with a friend in 1987; The Manic Lawn Mover.
There are 2 sequences:
A timelapse section and a shootout section (sorry for the timing but it is quite good)
Key info:
Shot on Agfa A40. Original film edited. Post sound striped and post sound edit work. Some sound recorded with a portable trash cassette recorder with built in mike and auto level. Made over a weekend with no script but 1 idea and kegs of beer. Absolutely no idea what the end result should or could be but we managed to "hook" the stuff together with only a few real missing takes. Total play time is about seven minutes. These clips are from a LQ DIY off screen with an old Sony V7 8mm so the quality is not too good.

Was that an in camera time laps when the two guys are working on the lawnmower or did you do it in post. Please let me know. Thanks

Hi, the time lapse was made with the camera at 1 fps. There is a small section when the mover is "hammered". Unfortunately the image quality is not so good on these clips but if you localize this part you can see the sequence where the hammer hits as it was put to upright position and "hit" position changed on every frame. This was possible to obtain because we could hear the camera move 1 by 1 frame and changing the hammer position accordingly. Looks like the mover is hit frenetically.
In that case, I'm looking forward to see the high-quality copy of it. Will you be uploading the entire 7 minute film or just another highlight clip?
This is inspiring me to work harder on my own half-dozen planned shorts. It does not help that I have to wait another month for my WorkPrinter to arrive.
Initially it is more convinent to post only the timelapse clip because the soundtrack in not syncing well to the HQ transfer so the soundtrack has to be reworked totally and it will take some time to sort this out.
The time lapse piece is easy to correct though.
If it is of any interest I may post the whole film in LQ version with the same image quality as the clips posted above quite soon.
This is a a sample from the same film showing the image quality by the WP transfer quality of Andreas´ WP.
Please note the the transfer was experimental - I did not believe for a second that the results could be this good with the Agfa film.
There are some slight jitter on the original but it is much more expressed on this DV copy.
• Thus the film was not cleaned before transfer.
• The speed should have been reduced to 73%
• There is no sound due to speed deviation
