man this really is a sad day....

K40 made it easy for super8 newbies to go to the next photoshop
get a cartridge of k40, shoot it, put it in the mailer and send
it of to switzerland and get the dseveloped film back within 2 weeks
for about 18euros...

well now beginners have to research the internet on where to get
new film cartridges order them via mail, shoot them...look for a lab that develops.... it pay the bill...send it to the lab etc etc

thats a big barrier (economywise: high transaction costs, high opportunity costs ...)

I fear thats too complicated for most beginners so they won´t
bother and do not even start and grab the next DV cam.....

so I fear this really is the end of super8 sooner or later....
k40 was an important tool to catch the interest of
future film makers making things as easy as possible with the
prepaid mailer...!!!!!!

and i guess that if 50percent of current k40 users switch
to the new ekta, processing labs will soon be too crowded
and you have to wait for weeks to get your film processed

i guess I shoot a documentary on k40
and name it 05/10/2005
instead of 9/11/2001

It's because they realize that too many people are now seeking out the smaller formats because with modern technology they look too good. They want to degrade the potential of the image so that people will defect to 16mm and spend more money! Anyway, as long is it is still available in a film stock (16mm) it can always be notched into R8.

sorry, i was a little worked up after an unfortunate enounter with film thurso in another thread. the 64t is an older stock than 100d, that's why you can't draw conclusions based on asa. you can only do that withing the same generation of emulsions. i.e. the vision 200t is less grainy than vision 500t, but the exr 200t isn't necessarily less grainy than vision2 500t.
